i dont have an opinion on it. i dont know much about it. all i know is that i wont benefit from it. no matter who says what about new policies, i wont ever benefit from it. Somehow there will be some minute detail that prevents me from reaping the benefits of said policy. This is the plight of the middle-class white male.

I cannot tell you how much i love taxes though.

I think this counts as an opinion, brotholomew.

A paranoid, unsubstantiated opinion but an opinion all the same.

cars_willkillyou 03.27.2010 01:28 AM

If you want to change something, grab a big gun. People will take you more seriously.

THAT'S America.

why do you say this? just the history of beaurcracy? I can't wait for it to kick in.

I mean, with health insurance, there is a possibility that that car will only hurt you not kill

cars_willkillyou 04.04.2010 12:31 AM

The more I read about this, the less I like it. 3rd degree felony for not having health insurance? Congress being exempt from the bill, which violates the 28th amendment. Completely unrelated to Health care reform, but included in the bill: government replacing private parties for providing student loans. The Stimulus Package in 09 gave the government access to Americans' medical records.

There's some serious bullshit going on. I'm all about helping those less fortunate, but its like Jefferson said "A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have." That's what the last 20+ years have been working towards. Actually, this whole path started with FDR and Social Security. I don't care so much that they are making new policies to adapt to modern times, but what they are doing is lying and betraying the American people. Government officials, law makers, and the likes are sworn to uphold and protect the Constitution. The last 70 years have been spent slowly (sometimes in large chunks) cutting out, or ignoring parts of the Constitution. Income Tax should not exist unless the nation is in time of War, as in Congressionally declared war, which hasnt happened since WWII. Social security should not exist. Patriot Act, medicare, welfare, healthcare, and the IRS should not exist, as well as many other government-funded programs.

I think the US Government should come out and be straight-forward about everything. "Listen, for most of the 20th century, we have been doing shit that is in direct violation of the Constitution, and have been going against the wise advice of our founding fathers long before that. But these "violations" are what had to be done to adapt to the changing of times. So, while we are taxing the American people more money, we are providing them with more services, and becoming more present in their everyday life. Not only does this give us more money to mismanage, but also gives us more power."

Throw the Constitution away. Write a new one. Let people know truth. Or like I said, bring on the revolution.

You and a huge number of your fellow Tea Partier's (that's what you are if you didn't know it) don't understand how the government works.

Since 1803, in Marbury vs. Madison, the Supreme Court is the arbiter of what is and isn't constitutional. Case closed. End of story. Deal with it.

So, yes, the consitution makes no mention of Income Tax nor Social Security. But through case law or denial of cases, the Supreme Court has decided that both of 'em are constitutional.

So shut the fuck up.

2) Misattributed to Thomas Jefferson:
"Government big enough to supply everything you need is big enough to take everything you have ... The course of history shows that as a government grows, liberty decreases.
Commonly quoted on many websites, this quotation is actually from Gerald Ford's August 12th, 1974 address to Congress."

whats with the hostility?

I have not attended any parties in a long while. Furthermore, I'm a coffee drinker. The only tea I drink is sweet tea, and thats on occasion. Or green tea when I'm sick, in place of coffee.

On a more serious note, I dont associate myself with this tea party movement bullshit. I dont subject myself to the opinions of news sources. I havent even watched the news in 3 years...more or less. So to imply that i'm just another mindless follower of half-informed opinions isnt just irresponsible, it's a juvenile, unprompted personal attack. Just because I think that socialism or rather, the government is responsible to provide for the civilians, shouldnt be present in America, does not mean I'm a tea bagger. Glenn Beck pisses me off just as much as Keith Olberman.

Simply put, I think America should be the land of the free. The freedom to chose how to manage your own money. The freedom to be rich or poor. Healthy or sick. Personally, I hate doctors. I'm sure we can all agree the only field more corrupt than the insurance industry is the pharmaceutical industry. So not only is the already corrupt American government taking over and creating monopolies in equally or more corrupt industries, but they are forcing Americans to support this. If you are rich, you are supporting it through taxes. If you are poor, you will be part of this system.

I was going to set up a couple hypothetical, but likely scenarios. They aren't needed though. Actually, you know what. Fuck this. Fuck you. Fuck everything about this topic. If this is what America is becoming, then I will fight it. I'm not going to be a pussy and say "if ___ does or doesnt happen im moving to canada." That's a cowards approach. I'm an American, and I am unsatisfied with the current state of affairs. It's my patriotic duty to voice my opinion, and fight for it, if need be.

The founding father's fought and died for the belief that the taxes on tea and paper were too high. Tea. And paper.

Commie bastard

akprodr 04.04.2010 08:49 PM

What's with the hostility? I'm sick of people claiming that this or that 'isn't constitutional'. Or talking about 'activist judges'. They are 'activist' because that is their job; they are performing their role in government.

If the country did not want the Supreme Court to be the arbiter of the constitution, they've had over 200 years to change it. Hasn't happened yet.

cars_willkillyou 04.04.2010 10:02 PM

edit: I feel like shit and I've been at work for way too long. I apologize for any frustration that came through in my post, that may or may not have been directed towards akprodr. Also, it should be known that some of my comments were made out of sarcastic humor, which is prevalent in a lot of my posts regarding "serious" topics.

So, akprodr, while I may not agree with your political ideals, I do respect your right to have them. I also respect your well-informed opinion. This is me apologizing to you for taking your post somewhat personally, as well as replying in a somewhat personal manner. If nothing else, I have a moral obligation to respect you simply because you are a Sonic Youth fan.
