indeed. I used to record the NBC Letterman on the Betamax, then the VHS and watch it when I got home from school, waiting for parents to get home.
In High School I would stay up on Fridays and watch it while on the phone with my best friend who was watching it in his home on the other side of town. In College I got kicked out of the dormitory partly because of being written up after quiet hours for laughing at Letterman. |
Rob when you were in highschool was probably the last time letterman was funny! This whole fawning over a past his prime retirement seems patronizing if you ask me
|
he has been hilarious the whole time, and even better after he actually stopped caring.
what people are "fawning" over is the end of an era. My TV best friend has left the airwaves and I cried myself to sleep last night. no lie. scared the shit out of my wife. There are no more TV talk shows for the angry, intelligent bitter people....everything is smarm, and ass-sucking, and people pretending to care, which was exactly what Dave never ever ever did. Honesty in network TV is exceedingly rare. |
saw the 5th? season of downton abbey. can't remember why i liked this show in the first place. seems now a kind of period fetish for anglophiliac pbs audiences. very little to look at since they killed the hot sister-- lady halfmoon and lady fishface are each annoying in their own way. the last entertaining character is the grandma who cracks me up. otherwise, super-dull and repetitive. i think this was supposed to last for 3 seasons only but after the initial success they've squeezed that tit until only sand comes out of it. it ends set up for a 6th season but why bother--just kill them all now.
|
Feel better soon rob, being old sucks like that.
|
can't say im that sad about Letterman leaving because I stopped watching him years ago. i got older and had to work no DVR blah blah....you know, but I always did enjoy him when I caught him. certainly was a fan of sorts.
I will say this, im very very excited that Colbert will take his place. can't wait. he'll be classic in everyway like Letterman. maybe more. |
im mean, Letterman had Beefheart on his show more than once. that's something right there. instead of Fallon inviting Keith Richards on his show just so he can do an impression of him. Fallon is ok, but he's kinda dorky and lame.
|
I loved the early to mid Letterman shows. It became overly cynical and a little too same-same after that. Also, I just couldn't stay up that late at night anymore, and being technologically retarded, never recorded, t-voed, etc. It was good for its time, 80s and early 90s. It had a good run.

these are dorky & lame times therefore he's a good fit cynical genxers have been dethroned-- it was a small generation to begin with what channel is coco on? (not that i have cable) |
Conan is on TBS now. noticed nobody gave a shit when Leno retired for the second time?
Fallon is ok, I enjoyed him on SNL but that's it. The Roots and the guest are cool, but meh. im excited for Colbert!!! |
Daredevil, it's pretty good.
|
btw. I will say Fallon does really good impressions of Neil Young and The Doors. those were hilarious.

Rednecks On Ice (aka Life Below Zero)
can't stand that bitch sue and her language formulas-- every world coming out of her mouth is some goddamn folksy prefab expression the eskimo lady's family is my favorite == ps- on the third season now, it's got so repetitive-- "here you have to kill in order to live" bla bla bla bla -- i'm dropping it |
Recently caught up with The Walking Dead, staying on top of Game of Thrones, and checking out Masters of Sex.

Yeah, we're in the man-child generation now. |

the most popular sitcom now is The Big Bang Theory. wimpy nerds are everywhere. and not the cool kind. I doubt most young men these days know how to even change a tire.
|
been watching the 3rd season of GIRLS.
it's pretty awful tv. all the characters are douches, all despicable in their own way. highly aggravating people. if i met them in real life i'd kill them all. preferrably with metal hooks or a machete. as a work of ethnography however it could be redeeming. i can see the appeal of it as a kind of national geographic show. the white tribes of new york seem to be heading towards extinction-- they remind me of the elois in "the time machine." i have to ask, however, if any of you know if these people are based in real life-- i have no direct experience of that world. also, the constant sight of lena dunham's asscrack reaching all the way up to her shoulderblades is extremely disturbing. do not eat while watching this. |
I find Lena Dunham's asscrack to be very appealing. I should watch it.

she is naked in every episode and her tits are practically in every shot so i imagine you're going to be in heaven. for me it was a trip through purgatory and i'm glad is over. my eyes curdled. the things one has to do to stay culturally current... |
I watched the first 2 seasons of Girls, and I think part of season 3 before just dropping it completely. I agree with !@#$%! regarding all of the characters.
|
I think it's the female version of Entourage. I think it's pretty funny
|
Quote:
season 1 maybe was funny. season 3 was creepy as fuck and an incitement to murder. the shark has been jumped. can't pinpoint the moment but it has. "frances ha" deals with the same kind of self-involved character and white people problems, but it shows you a person with less repellent qualities that doesn't have to flap her hams on the screen round-the-clock-- so it's actually a joy to watch-- plus, the movie ends instead of going on & on pointlessly. |

it is indeed very close to how the entitled generation rolls in their early 20's. Nothing prepared them for actual LIVING |
My wife and I have watched maybe 4 seasons of Trailer Park Boys in the past WEEK. Jesus fuck, I KNOW these people, I was raised with these people, HILARIOUS.
I cannot imagine how it is for the man who plays Mr. Lahey to "act" drunker and drunker every episode.... amazing amazing shit. |
lots .. sorta .. but Wayward Pines is fucking with Me , it is Horrifying ! like some kind 0f gnostic , "Dark City" story .. disturbing ... TFE (TwentyThreeeee)
|
Sense8... first episode is quite good. Doona Bae owns my heart.

great review one for the ages but we need so much more flabby asscrack on tv irl and even in dreams and hallucinations so i cant go the whole way with you on this |
also world wide white genocide now pls

i don't know, i live in an epicenter for diabetes, it's the #1 killer in my area IRL, so i have my doubts |
Battlebots. It's been over 12 goddamn years!
|
Watching The Fall on the netflix with Mrs. Instigator.
I am glad it is not a straight procedural. It is a pretty good exploration of the different ways a sociopath can go. One is a serial killer, and the other is a law enforcement detective dedicated to catching killers. better than Sense8. |
Quote:
My wife and I tried to watch this. I got about 4 eps in and no longer cared. |
Finished the latest round of Battlebots. Love Battlebots.
I think the same thing could be done in High Schools around the country just limit the "bots" to a weight of 30 lbs or so, which means they would be constructed out of wood, paper, plastic, etc. instead of having to weld heavy bots together. |
Quote:
30lbs is more than enough to pack a .44 magnum! ha ha ha ha eta: or an m16? ![]() -- just started watching "the americans". good show. |
from the mediocrite shit of past months... bloodline was the only good and worth 'your' time.
and hannibal. hannibal..i think it is getting the official 4 in my top4 of all times series. |
i've gotten kind of addicted to "the americans"-- currently on season 2
keri russell's luminous face definitely helps, but the show is good regardless |
Being Human, UK version, I wasn't that enamored of it at first, but it gets a LOT better as they drop the first characters.
the devil and the sticks and ropes guys are pretty fucking great! ![]() |
LONGMIRE returns in September. Finally! This time around, on Netflix. Thank you, Netflix!
|
hannibal season 1
