Ghsot Dog rules! And I'm NOT a huge Jarmusch fan.

atsonicpark 12.01.2009 10:13 PM

ghost dog is good, Jarmusch is mediocre.

The Earl Of Slander 12.01.2009 11:20 PM

Haven't seen Ghost Dog (although I plan too), but, although his work is definitely mixed, I LOVE Jarmusch sometimes. Down By Law is just amazing! Dead Man is pretty class too, if it catches you at the right time. Stranger Than Paradise is good. Beyond that, haven't seen anything that I was that impressed by...

Dead Man is by far Jarmusch's best film.
Mediocre? Ha! That's a joke.

TheFoxBen 12.02.2009 08:36 AM

Jarmusch isn't mediocre at all... He's actually one of my favorite directors, Mystery Train is the best if you want my opinion.

atsonicpark 12.02.2009 11:07 AM

He's not that great to me, at all. Dead Man and Mystery Train are both pretty good. Like I said, I like Ghost Dog, that might be his best. I like the atmosphere and the music in Dead Man, and the first story in Mystery Train is amazing though the rest kinda fall flat. Coffee and Cigarettes is probably one of the worst films I've ever seen in my life. Found Down by Law pretty boring. Everything else is pretty bland to mediocore. I just haven't seen anything by him I'd call great (and I've seen just about everything) THOUGH I am really excited to see The Limits of Control, I think that actually looks amazing! Don't understand the hype with that guy, it's like Wes Anderson... can't say I really enjoy any of his films that much, but he's alright.

wellcharge 12.02.2009 11:12 AM

i love dead man, i think stranger than paradise and night on earth are good, i don't think down by law is all that good.

fugazifan 12.02.2009 04:55 PM

i think he is way better than wes anderson. while i enjoy andersons films they really address a very specific audiance that seem to find him god or something. jarmusch's films are way more artistic in my opinion and most of them are very beautiful and poetic yet with a great sense of humor.
dead man
stranger than paradise
down by law
night on earth

all amazing. even limits of control was pretty cool. he might be the only director that ive seen all of his full length films

Tokolosh 12.02.2009 05:00 PM

Jarmusch isn't as appreciated in America as he is here in Europe.
That says something about the way he makes films. No offence, atsonicpark.

Bad Lieutenant: Port Of Call New Orleans - 6/10

noisereductions 12.02.2009 09:12 PM

I'm not really sure how Jarmusch and Anderson relate, but film for film I like Anderson better. Jarmusch is "cool" but has a lot of boring shit too. However, Ghost Dog amazing. I love it.

gmku 12.02.2009 09:27 PM

Take the Money and Run. That Woody! He cracks me up every time.

They relate because they're both overrated.

!@#$%! 12.03.2009 12:56 AM

youve never seen DOWN BY LAW? it's awesome. i hate permanent vacation, i really like STRANGER THAN PARADISE, i love DEAD MAN, and NIGHT ON EARTH is a bit 90's-trendy but still delicious.

don't shit on your colleagues. shit on... james fucking cameron-- or worse-- that fuck who did "singles"-- blechhhh....

atsonicpark 12.03.2009 01:14 AM

i love bad timing.
dont look now wasnt as good but still cool.

atsonicpark 12.03.2009 01:25 AM

Yeah Bad Timing was cool, really enjoyed the editing.

phoenix 12.03.2009 07:48 AM

where the wild things are

Puppets were awesome. Really liked the score. Didn't realise it was all/mostly filmed in Oz! This made it even better(in a familiar way).

noisereductions 12.03.2009 08:10 AM

Don't Look Now is good. But I watched it around the same time as Alice Sweet Alice. And they end up kind of similar. And now I can't remember which one I liked and which one I got bored with. Hmm.

shabbray2.0 12.03.2009 08:11 AM

matrix trilogy.

reloaded/revolutions are just a pain in the ass.

atsonicpark 12.03.2009 08:18 AM

yeah the third matrix film is the worst film ever made.

shabbray2.0 12.03.2009 08:29 AM

yes. there is only one good scene: these 2 seconds when the ship jumps over the dark clouds...
I love the colors and everything. but the whole rest of it just sucks.
I enjoyed rewatching the first matrix. its a pretty cool cyberpunk movie with a lot things which which completely rebuild the expectations of action cinema. but the wachoskwi brothers just killed it slowly with reloaded and completely with revolutions.

phoenix 12.03.2009 08:31 AM

dark city > matrix

shabbray2.0 12.03.2009 08:37 AM

^^I dig parts of dark city, too.
but what annoys me is the ending which relied to much on cgi visual effects, and they arent that nice to look at anymore. the same goes with some things in matrix. the cgi that looked stunning when they came out just looks too plastic nowadays I think. the opposite of that is a movie like blade runner (yes, mentioned too often, but not often enough for me). no cgi involved, still looks classy.

and I dont like the alien-creatures in dark city, they are erm...ugly or something?
the story is interesting and even the city changing cgi is great. its a mixed bag for me

man I am in full agreement of how the second and third matrix movies were just ridiculous crap.

They should have condensed them into one movie. It may have worked better. I got sick of how fucking heavy reverential they all got in the second and third movie. heavy handed symbolism!!!

Rob Instigator 12.03.2009 10:06 AM

as far as jarmusch, no director is perfect, but he does make some neat flicks. dead man and ghost dog are great. "You know, like the rappers."

the coffee and cigarrettes movie sucked ass, but it was a throwaway bullshit anyway. a concept with no point.

atsonicpark 12.03.2009 11:24 AM

10 worst films i've ever seen:

1. pauly shore is dead
2. coffee and cigarettes
3. the first pirates of the caribean (I'm sure the other two are equally bad)
4. matrix revolutions
5. ankle biters
6. requiem for a dream
7. eternal gaze
8. death proof
9. devil's rejects
10. halloween remake

it's awesome that I agree with you until #8. I love DP, as you know. Then Devil's Rejects I LIKE. Don't love. But I love the Hallowe'en REIMAGINING. The 2nd one was pretty f'ing bad though. It's just funny to me how our tastes can overlap so much but then differ so much. It's interesting.

atsonicpark 12.03.2009 11:51 AM

Fun stuff!

Rob Instigator 12.03.2009 12:05 PM

I agree with most but not the Pirates of The Caribbean

That was the best children's movie of the last ten years. It was near perfect.
very funny stuff.

Like the whole set up (sci-fi noir, man wakes up with no memories, is being hunted, and the city/people change at night) is amazing. Like there are so many little cool ideas there, and the tone is glorious. But then it turns out it's like "they're aliens in outer space or some shit and ooh look big plastic CGI fight"? That really let me down.

Rob Instigator 12.03.2009 12:31 PM

what is wrongwith that?

i like requiem for a dream, death proof and coffee and cigarettes.

atsonicpark 12.03.2009 12:54 PM

Requiem for a Dream is a boring extended music video about drugs. Awful acting, pathetic and boring characters, and headache-inducing editing. The "dramatic" scenes were laughable. Jared Leto, ugh, and a WAYANS BROTHER, UGH... Only saving grace is the music. The similiar Spun is pretty good, though, but a really good recent drug movie that blows them both away is MOST HIGH. Death Proof was just boring and annoying. Girls talking about hot guys and smoking weed. Girl dies. More girls talking about hot guys and pot. Girl rides on car for 30 minutes. Girls punch a guy. End. 2 hours of bullshit. Not a single interesting thing happens. Coffee and Cigarettes was the ultimate in... let's take a bunch of cool, interesting people and somehow turn it into the most uninteresting thing ever.
