Last movie I saw was Ten Canoes. Very , very cool movie. http://www.tencanoes.com.au/tencanoes/

Before that the last movie we saw was Little Miss Sunshine. That was cool too.

How was Fando & Lis. I haven't seen that one yet.

That Jodorowsky documentary is pretty odd. That's the one where he has this kind of self help class at the end isn't it?

I wasn't all that keen on seeing Ten Canoes until I found out it was directed by Rolf De Heer who did Bad Boy Bubby. That's easily one of the best films to come out of Australia I think.

Norma J 06.15.2007 05:21 AM

Have you seen Ten Canoes then?

Tokolosh, that 'documentary marathon' seems like it'd be a treat.

king_buzzo 06.15.2007 05:21 AM

Whoooooooooo am IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII??????????????

!@#$%! 06.15.2007 10:46 AM

toko-- wow, nice marathon. i might pick some of those soon.

slavo-- i loved the acting on that movie, the story felt a bit compressed though.

iain-- fando y lis was extraordinary. yes the documentary is that which you speak of, with the family tree, and the poet dad-- a little bizarre, but the guy is good at that, and manages to say a lot of interesting things in the process.

anyway, last night:

most brilliant. polanski is awesome (as a director, not an actor, ha ha)

screamingskull 06.15.2007 10:54 AM

Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End

I thought it was good, better than the 1st and 2nd. Keira annoyed me though. Johnny was funny.

Magnolia

I've seen it before, but i loved it again the second time. It's a shame Tom Cruise is so short and crazy, as he's quite hansom in that film.

Sheesh what was up with calipso dividing in millions of little crabs???? I like the 'artistic' moments

jimbrim 06.15.2007 11:27 AM

I watched Taxi Driver last night. Thought it was OK.

atsonicpark 06.15.2007 12:22 PM

Taxi Driver is by FAR (as in, it would probably occupy 3 or 4 spots in my top 10 favorite films ever) my favorite film of all time.

Anyway, i saw zombie vs ninja (sucked) and watched fulltime killer twice this week. it's a treat.

My housemate recently ordered the Jodorowsky boxset so hopefully that will turn up soon. I am dying to see Fando & Lis and El Topo. Plus hear the soundtracks properly.

floatingslowly 06.15.2007 01:39 PM

I was FORCED to watch Shrek the Third.

sadly, I will never have the time that was wasted out of my life refunded.

my review?

Shrek the Third EATS A BAG OF DICKS.

atsonicpark 06.15.2007 01:41 PM

fando y lis as great. not as good as santa sangre though (why isn't that on the box?). the real bonus of the box is to get the holy mountain soundtrack! though it still SEEMS to be missing a track or two... (case in point: that website had every song from the movie on their website, with the movie dialogue, and it was like 90 minute long, whereas this cd is only like 70 minutes long -- it has to be missing a few tracks or parts of tracks, but the quality is amazing!)

el topo is my favorite jodorowosky movie however. just.. amazing.

atsonicpark 06.15.2007 01:43 PM

also, am i the only one who HATES shrek? i don't like him as a character, i don't like any of the characters, i didn't find it funny, clever, etc. though as far as overrated shitrilogies is concerned, pirates is way worse. god. i saw the first pirates -- which was, what, 2 hours and 45 minutes long? -- and was bored out of my fucking mind worse than anything. never bothered with the second one, though i hear the new one is the worst of the 3.

and before anyone says "DUH u DON't LIKe It CAUSe IT's POPuLAR!!!!", i can't wait for the new die hard! and i loved the spiderman films (3 was a fucking mess, but it was hilarious! almost as funny as sam raimi's role in thou shalt not kill... except/stryker's war -- if you haven't seen that movie, check it out)...

oh, I also watched rabid grannies again this week. decent lil movie. troma rules.

Everyneurotic 06.15.2007 04:00 PM

yeah, shrek sucks, i can't believe mike myers is involved so much and that none of the movies are even halfway decent.

phoenix 06.15.2007 07:57 PM

the third pirates movie.

the music is awesome, and yes. costumes.. jack sparrow. etc. yummy

Dead-Air 06.15.2007 09:19 PM

Stalker by Tarkovsky. Brilliant, and incredibly beautiful cinematography, and yet very difficult to stay awake through. I made it, but it took a couple tries. Just too damn hypnotic.

it happens, it happens, sometimes with the best. i haven't seen this but i have it queued up...

anyway my latest (earlier tonight)

aka "a man escaped"

bresson = brilliant.

the first time i saw this movie it blew my mind. i also (very highly) recommend his book "notes on cinematography"

Tokolosh 06.19.2007 05:53 AM

Watched Grindhouse last night. Really enjoyed Planet Terror. Death Proof wasn't too bad, but boring till the car chase started. The trailers were way better. Machete, Werewolf Women of the SS, Don't, Thanksgiving and Hobo With a Shotgun were very funny. Nikolas Cage as Fu Manchu was hysterical. :D

The official website is pretty well done. You can even make your own trailer or film poster.

The Host, which was pretty damn awesome.
also Sunshine, not as good as i thought it'd be but still had it's great bits.

this doesn't count as a movie
but i just saw the trailer to Paul Thomas Anderson's new movie "There Will Be Blood"
funny how it works out..
i started watching this trailer and at first didn't instantly get excited for the movie.
after a good 30 seconds, all the PTAisms and the cinematography
and his total sense of direction came to the forefront.
a sense of Malick is also all over this, which is a very, very good thing.
and by the end, it made me wish it was out next week.
can't wait.
