I want the LORD album to be like 36 Chambers as produced by SpaceGhostPurrp, Clams Casino and araabMUZIK. Now the real question is, will the rest of the mob keep pace with Rocky? Is there room for Ferg and Nast and the rest to have individual careers of their own with Rocky breaking into superstar territory? |
"LVL" is prob my favorite on Long.Live too. So spacey.
Ugh I'd kill for SGP to still be working w/ A$AP. What a match made in heaven they were. Brought out the best in eachother. I think right now Ferg is poised to keep the same level of acclaim as Rocky. At least in the mainstream. He's def got on some radio shiz. His debut was awesome. And Forever Ferg was ridiculous ("Doe Active" alone was insane). I think he'll be up there. But I think that doing a proper A$AP Mob album would help them all big time. I know that they're perfectionists. I know they prefer quality over quantity. But seriously. We should have already gotten LORD. And Rocky's instrumental album. |
Ferg is so versatile, every song on Trap Lord is like a different genre.
|
BasedGod not fucking around, his NBA curses are legit, Cavs ain't taking no risks.. if anything i think they were capping on James Harden

Yeah, what the fuck happened with that? Weren't we supposed to get a double album of A$AP Rocky instrumentals and beats, as well as a full length Mob album back in 2014? I'm really interested to hear what Rocky's solo beat/production work will sound like. I mean, it kinda feels a bit like Michael Jordon playing baseball... But still, wouldn't it be something if he just killed it? I can see how it wouldn't be a very fan-friendly move... But now would be an ideal time to drop such a project without the risk of alienating fans who've been waiting for a proper Ling.Live follow up. He should do that shit NOW! |
well I always had a gut feeling that he could pull a Carter 3... remember how the 1st press of C3 had The Leak EP included? I kept thinking that when the physical copies hit of ALLA, that there could be a bonus disc w/ either the scrapped LORD album or his instrumental album. We shall see...
|
HOLY SHIT, I MUST TAKE A BREAK FROM TALKING ABOUT ROCKY'S ALBUM.
BECAUSE THE WEEKND JUST DROPPED THE GREATEST VIDEO OF THE YEAR. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzTuBuRdAyA HOOOLY SHIT.. HOLY FUCKING SHIT. I'M SO BLOWN AWAY RIGHT NOW. |
Quote:
Yeah that's pretty impressive. When the car blows BANG on the beat. Man... |

I was thinking the same thing, actually. Maybe a companion disc of instrumental material. I'd be Ok with that. But I would prefer LORD to be a major event along the lines of Watch The Throne.... not that anything is quite that major... That shit is like.. imagine if The Beatles and Stones had released a split LP in '68! Or fucking Prince and Michael Jackson. Sorry ... It's really hard to make a post without thinking of, and subsequently changing topics completely to talk about, Kanye West. I'll work on that |
ok that new Rocky is so slow and soooo stoned. not dark or shockingly wild. can't say nothing really stood out yet but is listenable like a classic hip hop record. you can pick out the radio tunes through out. im sure the more I hear it the more it is what I expected from a hip hop artist on top of his game. new school old school shit.
|
I got a beef: this sensitive rapper shit has got get out the way. it's starting to get emo 2007 old. like someone thought it was ok to mix Spandau ballet wit hard beats. this fad has taking over r and b radio.
mainly aimed at the vid louder posted. |
Cant stop listening to ALLA... album of the year for me right now by a long shot.
|
speaking of scrapped A$AP projects, there was talk back when he got signed of having a deluxe edition retail release of Live.Love on Polo Grounds. Would have loved a remastered version w/ extra stuff.
Plus, I always thought that Lords Never Worry should have gotten a retail release as well. That one seems so slept on. Imagine both those tapes released as a remastered double album set? Oh and wtf ever happened to the rumored Lana Del Rey collab song? |
I tend to think of hip-hol albums as separate from everything else until the time comes to actually rank shit together. But I'm with NR as far as hip hop albums go. So far it's looking like this:
1. At.Long.Last.A$AP 2. To Pimp a Butterfly 3. Tetsuo & Youth 4. If You're Reading This It's Too Late 5. B4.DA.$$ 6. Flying International Luxurious Art 7. Pilot Talk III 8. Mr. Wonderful 9. Sour Soul 10. Cherry Bomb Though admittedly, I am kinda blanking on some of the year's big releases at this point. There's been a lot of worthwhile hip-hop, but the really iconic stand-outs still seem to be A$AP, Kendrick, Lupe, Joey Bada$$ and Drake. As for all around album of the year, that's much more difficult. The new Jim O'Rourke seems like duh an obvious choice, but it's just a terrific album all the way through. But there's also.. Jefre Cantu-Ledesma - A Year With 13 Moons Thee Oh Sees - Mutilator Defeated at Last Eric Holm - Andřya Lotic - Hererocetera Jamie xx - In Colour (I like his DJ work so much more than the Xx.) But shit. If Pusha T drops an album that's half as good as My Name is My Name, things will get serious. And I'm holding onto hope that Kanye drops a release date on us before the 2 year anniversary of Yeezus. |
Im going with No Cities To Love for album of year and sticking too it

Anyone have thoughts to share on Jukebox Joints? I'm still a little thrown by Kanye's verse. Usually, when he drops a guest verse or lends production to another rapper's album, his cut is THE cut. Like on Mastermind, Honest and Cherry Bomb. But while I do like the song, that verse sounds like it was cut in the first take, and at least half improvised. It's not my choice for prime cut on ALLA, in fact it sounds a little disjointed.
That may have been the point, though. Making a song that sounds like four different songs, selected on jukebox somewhere in Detroit where shit hasn't been updated since the mid '90s. Still, I was really looking forward to it and I'm ever so slightly... let down.. Kinda. |
so far this year strictly for hip hop...
A$AP Rocky - At.Long.Last.A$AP Action Bronson - Mr. Wonderful Joey Bada$$ - B4.DA.$$ Drake - If You're Reading This Ghostface - Sour Soul Alchemist & Oh No - Welcome To Los Santos Da Mafia 6ix - Watch What You Wish Earl - I Don't Like Shit Kendrick - TPAB CanOx - Blade Of The Ronin ...still some albums I want to listen to but haven't gotten around to yet like Cherry Bomb and Barter 6. |
![]() This will shock some, but I have absolutely no opinion of the hip hop albums of this year out of complete ignorance.. grad school swallowed all my new music time, hoping to take a crash course on Ghostface, Kendrick, and Earl over the summer. |
so it just got revealed that Ghostface was supposed to do a verse on Jay's "Heaven" on MCHG but he turned in the verse to late so it didn't make the album. That sucksssssssssssss. That beat sounds like some classic 90's Wu-Tang. Would've been dope to hear Jay and Ghost on that same beat together. Ugh.

I've completely stopped paying attention to Lil B, so please clarify. What do you mean his "NBA curses are legit" ... Cavs ain't takin no risks? Is he good at basketball or nah? Is he playing for the Cavaliers or nah? What does "capping" mean? I also don't pay much attention to basketball, if you can't already tell. |

Ahhhhhh man that sucks! What a great addition a GFK verse would have to that incredible track. --- Has anyone heard Kendrick's verse for "All Day"? I heard something about this a while back, but I don't know if his verse was dropped, or if it'll turn up on the final version, or what... --- I forgot about Blade of the Ronin. That album has definitely grown on me. |

ok so I finally listened to Barter 6. Holy heck is that a terrible album. Just wow. I mean some of the beats were good, but what the fuck was he doing? I couldn't understand 75% of his words. Were they even words? It sounded like a schizophrenic ramble most of the time. Not really words... no real flow... vocals changing pitch and cadence and volume for no real reason. I just don't know what to make of it or why it's gotten any praise. I feel like if it wasn't some buzz-worthy name on the cover, and wasn't a title taking a popshot at Weezy then nobody would have given this thing a second thought. |
Exactly. I gave it subsequent chances just to make sure I wasn't speaking out of turn, but I wasn't. Young Thug's debut is one of the worst in recent memory.
Real talk, I think the guy's a hack. Who would listen to such one dimensional, borderline-retarded hip hop when artists like Rocky and Kendrick are out there dropping masterpieces of the genre. I am incredibly fucking disappointed with this entire disastrous piece of shit album, and I can't imagine how he's gonna win me back. I mean this shit is truly awful. |
so let's talk about SURF.
|
is there anything to talk about yet? I mean, I think some songs leaked right? But I haven't heard them as I usually like to wait for a full album.
I don't know, I'm worried Chance let some momentum slip. I hope I'm wrong. But y'know, Acid Rap should have been a retail album... and now we're waiting all this time for him to put out a debut and it won't even be a proper solo album right? Like... Social Experiment is diff sound than his usual? Hopefully I'm over-thinking and worried for nothing. Acid Rap was so f'ing good. EDIT: Wait, what? SURF is out?? Ok, will listen soon haha!!! ... y'all see P'fork's review of ALLA? I mean 7.8 is good, and they say lots of good things....... but they gave higher scores and "Best New Music" tag to TPAB and BARTER 6 (!!!). How does this not get BNM? Not that I put much weight into their opinion. But, man. |
Surf is alright. maybe it'll take more listens to grow on me.. there are some good songs, but Chance only appears on like 6 songs out of 16, and there are a lot of random guest features.
"Sunday Candy" is still one of his best songs though. if that's an indication then he's definitely capable of making another project on Acid Rap's level. |
Wayne is gonna wash Thug with his his next project. he sounds inspired again, his verse on M'$ is insane.

James Harden be doing a "cooking" gesture celebrating made shots this season, lil b called him out cuz the cooking dance is his own since 2010.. lil b tweeted a warning, Harden totally ignores it, then when on to lose in the Conference Finals in embarrassing fashion this year |
that Kevin Durant diss was some funny shit. Lil B should be a cultural icon.
he also had one of the best songs of 2014, hands down: https://youtube.com/watch?v=83p69JhDnwU |
i need Danny Brown's next album so badly.
XXX is a true masterpiece, one of the best rap albums of the decade. Old is cool too. he said that his next one is influenced by System of a Down's Toxicity.. apparently he's a huge fan. i'm wondering if he meant the sound or just the content, or maybe both? i can't wait to hear it. |
Yeah i love xxx

He even called out Lebron this weekend.. weirdly when Cavs player Iman Shumpert responded Lil B said "cool Go Cavs" preventing yet another NBA star to be cursed. Why is this actually huge deal? CAVS are playing the Warriors (Bay Area team) and Lil B has always been a very vocal Dubs fan.. so really he should have went out and curses Cleveland (hey God already hates Cleveland anyway) but now he risking looking foolish if his team loses to Cavs in upcoming NBA Finals |

I really love Hot Soup. I was just thinking the other day about how "OG" Danny Brown fans really dislike Old, but the world couldn't get enough of it. Wait, is Danny dropping a new album this year? I forgot. |
I liked Old, but XXX kills it.
|
I think my favorite DB release is Black & Brown, his collab with Black Milk producing. That shit is incredible.
|
HHDX's review of ALLA calls it his best album yet:
http://hiphopdx.com/reviews/id.2473/...-long-last-aap |
ok "Wanna Be Cool" from Surf is amazing!! it reminds me of The Descendents, easily my fav song on the tape. listen to it.
|
Listening to XXX right now. Admittedly, it does kill it. But so does Hot Soup. I haven't put as much time into The Hybrid, as I don't own a physical copy of it, but I'm pretty sure it's dope as well.
Funny that Danny was being vetted for G-Unit at one point. I can't say it's a match I'd have come up with. But you never know. You know that scene The Dark Knight where the token black gangster orders his thugs to bring him the joker's body, and then some thugs come in with a body bag, and when the "boss" opens it up, Jokers jumps up and the thugs who brought him in pull out AK's and point them at everyone while the Joker puts a knife to boss-boy's cheek and drops him like a a rag doll? I can't help but think of that scene when I hear about 50 Cent dissing Danny Brown. G-Unit had their time, but Danny Brown is like the fucking joker; infinitely more talented and versatile than Don Fitty. I can't imagine he'd stage a coup and rip 50's face apart, but you get the idea. |
