Fuck, with this crisis going on, and divorce, and house selling, and house buying, and homeschooling for my 11 year old, and my mother with the fucking virus, I seem to have the attention span of Trump at an Intelligence Briefing. I get distracted half way through reading a tweet. I want to read books, listen to music, watch films.....but I fucking can't.

Sounds dreadful, Skuj. :( But Symbols was right: you and your soon-to-be ex cannot divorce and sell/buy houses right in the middle of this SHIT; it's a no-no the way I see it. There'll be time. I'm not sayin' - I'm just sayin'... |

We heard that everything had ground to a halt, initially, in the real-estate world. Then we saw signs going up, and SOLD appearing now and then, and listings galore. People adapted. Showings involved owners fucking off (as usual, mind), hand sanitizers for all viewers at the door, realtors keeping 2m+ away from everyone, etc etc. It's happening, rightly or wrongly. I've viewed a couple of empty houses. I don't expect a shitload of viewings at my house anytime soon, but at least we are listed for everyone to see.
|
It's funny....all the neighbours can see the sign on the lawn now. Some know. Some don't. A conversation I had this morning:
"So what big changes are going on in your life?" "Divorce." |
I mean, I'm still going to work!! We made big adjustments to the number of people around the office, and sanitation procedures.
I think I will make an offer on a condo tomorrow. |

i hear of these mythological people reading long novels and i’m like “when?” last night i was up at 2am ordering stuff online. early this morning i was unpacking boxes and cleaning their contents. later on i was looking for more supplies. life is very random right now unless you’re sitting on a massive stockpile with your life sorted and nothing to worry about. there is such thing as decision fatigue, and while i get the idea that you wanna apply your mind to things maybe the best thing to do for a while is to *not think* and empty your mind. the walking seems to do it for you, no? as for the rest, you’re going to have reduce and automate some things so you can clear your head for the big ones. here’s a little article about “priorities” and other shit. i am not sure if it makes the point or if it will help you but maybe it helps you figure out shit: http://www.43folders.com/2009/04/28/priorities here’s an ebook about sorting shit out, if you have time: http://thespinachman.com/wp-content/...o-Done-2-1.pdf |
Dude, thanks. I'll check those out.
Walking is great. I feel very lucky that I can do it, because I know many people in certain places cannot. 11km total today. I do my best thinking when walking. My little running experiment (detailed several posts ago) lasted precisely 5 days. Conclusion: I'm just as fucked now for running as I was when I quit 15 months ago. It's over. 45 years of experiences and memories are what I have. Now I am a swimmer (on a break) and a walker. I will never conduct this experiment again. I accept this reality. |

i'm glad i'm not a runner. i hear runner's knees is how orthopedic surgeons pay for their yachts :D question about running: is it a foot problem, a knee problem, a hip problem, or a back problem? and are you a heel striker? (just curious, sorry) |
Biking is fine, but I love walking. And swimming.
I have "mild osteoarthritis" in both knees. I'm fine as long as I don't try to run - something that I obviously had to re-learn over the last few days. I "was" a forefoot striker. |
Quote:
ah, shit, so "born to run" and barefoot running etc would not spare you? that's truly tragic. my condolences. can your knees be repaired/replaced and allow you to run again or no? how does this stuff work? bicycling can cause knee pain with the wrong fit but i guess not a concern for you at this point. i love water, but hate chlorine. if i lived by the ocean i would go. |
Well, I had 40+ years of running, so I'm happy. There are various things one can do, but none of those things, to me, means that I will do the running that I would love to do. Time to give it a rest and concentrate on swimming.
Yes....when I have done some biking it actually bugged my knee a bit. Walking/swimming makes the most sense now. |

That's who you are And when this mess is over I'll buy you a car We'll drive that car So fast and so far All your stupid friends Will be left behind Stay away from me Baby, keep your distance, please Stay away from me Words of love in times like these I'm gonna be with you 24 hours a day A lot of people couldn't stand that But you can You'll be with me 24 hours a day What a lucky man I am Stay away from me Wash your hands Don't touch your face How do you like that Wash your hands Don't touch your face I saw you Thirty years together And we're still having fun Once we were two, Now we are one Let's go out and get a burger When you're done, you're done Memories of the past Be kind to one another Tell her you love her every day If you're angry about something, let it go If the kids are frightened, tell them not to be afraid But don't let them touch your face Don't let them touch your face Watch: Randy Newman Performs "Stay Away," A Song for Social Distancing You can buy the tune there as well. "Proceeds will benefit the Ellis Marsalis Center for Music in New Orleans, a city to which Newman has a deep, lifelong personal connection. 'New Orleans is really suffering, and since African Americans are taking the brunt of the punishment, I thought something to help the Ninth Ward would be a good idea,' Newman said. 'The Ellis Marsalis Center has a great reputation among musicians and people I know who live in the city. If the song makes a great deal of money, all bets are off.'" |

It's ok to not pay attention for a bit of time, and get footnotes later. Save your mental health and the stress.

I'm at "work". News channel is on. It can't be helped. The same old lies came out about the Iran pipeline to Europe, the money Obama sent to Iran, how Trump saved us all from war with North Korea, etc etc etc.
They talked a bit about the virus, also. |
