Skyrim is too much like a swords-and-sorcery version of Fallout 3. Everywhere I've gone I'm constantly reminded of Fallout 3. Even some of the bandits ridiculously resemble the raiders from Fallout 3! I'm disappointed about that, to be honest. I'm not enjoying it as much as Oblivion. You'd think Bethseda would've used a different game engine to distinguish it from other titles, which it has done in the past, but this time it's clear the decision was made to lazily mod Fallout 3 to fit within the fantasy potboiler parameters of the Elder Scrolls universe. In fact the graphics look worse than Oblivions'! Some improvements have been made in the gameplay, but that's a moot point when you look at the bigger picture.

EVOLghost 11.12.2011 10:22 AM

lolskryrimjob.

Count Mecha 11.13.2011 12:47 AM

I'm still not sure how I feel about Skyrim yet. I played Daggerfall and Oblivion already, so I'm pretty sure I already know what this game is all about, I'm just not sure if I want to delve into it. I've also been wary about Fallout 3, because I know it'll be so much like Oblivion, while at the same time being such a huge departure from the earlier Fallout games. Everything's a fucking FPS these days, Fallout, this new XCOM, and now the damn Syndicate remake. Next year they'll probably remake Crusader No Remorse as an FPS but just call it Crusader.

Anyway, playing Baldur's Gate while thinking on Skyrim. Great game, hate having to ditch party members to get other ones. I'd gotten kind of attached to Garrick.

Ghostchase 11.13.2011 01:58 PM

Finishing (finally) City in the Sky part of Twilight Princess.

Played Limbo a bit, trying finally beating that too.

A Dash of L4D2.

A sprinkle of F-Zero GX.

EVOLghost 11.13.2011 03:46 PM

^ Yeah..I just started limbo. crazy cool.

Ghostchase 11.13.2011 04:34 PM

Its hard. I almost want it to be more relaxing and not so frustrating, so I can thoroughly enjoy the environments, while not swearing.

EVOLghost 11.13.2011 04:43 PM

Yeah I'm currently stuck right now....I know what I have to do...just hard to do what I need to do.

stu666 11.13.2011 04:46 PM

Limbo is the best game I've played for some time, it's a shame it's all over so quickly though.

Skyrim does have it's similiarites to those games, but it DOES use a new engine. you can really tell when it comes to the particle effects.

I can see how you might think it's a modded out Oblivion, but a lot of the features that make it seem so (crafting, herb harvesting etc) came from mods that were incorporated into Fallout New Vegas.

that said...I typically don't dole out spoilers, but I had a fucking AWESOME videogame moment just now.

in doing quests to join the fighter's guild, I pulled a level in a dungeon that trapped me in a room. the NPC that was with me on this quest told me not to worry and began looking for a way to rescue me. all of a sudden he was surrounded by about 5 other hostile NPCs. I was ready to re-load to the start of the dungeon when MY npc flipped out, turned into a FUCKING WEREWOLF and rocked their shit.

top moment in video game history. sooooo fucking badass.

Yeah, happened to me, too. The guy's a member of the Companions. A group of lycanthrope mercenaries. I joined them. You may like to know you're given the choice of becoming a werewolf by drinking one of the member's blood. They pretty much insist if you want to be an integral part of their circle. Despite my criticism of Skyrim, I am slowly being enchanted by it. :)
