Kill Your Idols

I love Netflix on demand
it was great seeing the No Wave scene well represented and interviewed in this format. The modern bands just came off looking like idiots, particularly that chick from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

burn after reading - 5/10
This had some clever stuff in it but was usually pretty dull and annoying. Never really got me interested. But it was okay.

the wrestler - 7/10
Rourke's performance is awesome, if the story itself is a bit tired.

I thought it was bad for the Coens, but good for a movie. Malkovich was great, as always, so I might have just enjoyed waiting for his parts. I'd probably give it a high 6.

atsonicpark 12.30.2008 06:27 AM

That's how I felt too. Malkovich was the best part, definitely.

YEAH, mal was cool, and clooney hot, and there are a couple memorable scenes. Not a bad movie at all imo, I've always considered it as a pure entertainment/light effort from the Cohens, so I did not have expectations to get a new miller's crossing...

It was pretty good, albeit over-hyped, and the effects were amazing. At times they assumed the stupidity of the audience as Hollywood movies often do (after reading Benjamin's diary where he said that he would never forget the blue eyes of the girl he met that day, the young daughter turns to her aged mother and says "Do you realize that he loved you from the moment he met you?", to ensure we all knew the little girl was her), but when you look around and see that some people actually do require this assistance to understand any part of a movie that requires thought - not of their own fault, of course; they may be relatively intelligent people who have only become accustomed to turning off their perceptive powers upon entering the theater - you can accept these moments and still appreciate a well told story, with acting and special effects that do not overshadow, but instead add to the experience.
