Don't think so.

atsonicpark 04.09.2010 07:47 PM

I can't even that of that many that were nominated for "Best film" instead of "Best foreign film"... cries and whispers comes to mind..

demonrail666 04.10.2010 03:17 AM

maybe there's something within the academy rules stating best film has to be english language. I just took a look through the winners and nominations for the sixties and saw no mention of any movies by Godard, Fellini, Antonioni or Bergman in ther 'best film' category, so I'm guessing it has to be. It does cheapen the award somewhat though. Was Tom Jones really a better movie than 8 1/2?

chicka 04.10.2010 11:31 AM

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and Life is Beautiful also come to mind but neither won the best picture Oscar both deserved it. CTHD lost to Gladiator
and LIB lost to Shakespeare in Love. Both good but inferior imo.

Shutter Island

demonrail666 04.10.2010 08:13 PM

Finders Keepers, Lovers Weepers. 3/10. For me this is Russ Meyer's worst film.

kaitlynmazur 04.11.2010 12:01 AM

Let's see here...
Jumanji
The Breakfast Club
The Mighty Ducks
D2: The Mighty Ducks
Pineapple Express
The Replacements

Yeah, it's been a shitty week at home with nothing to do.

I usually enjoy all of those except Pineapple Epxress which I haven't bothered with.

My last two have been: The Great Muppet Caper, Muppets Take Manhattan

DanielCarlson 04.11.2010 12:49 PM

Hmm, let's see...

I liked all of them quite a lot.

chicka 04.11.2010 01:05 PM

Ah the great Russ Myers, Vixen being the first X rated movie my friends and I got into at the ripe old age of 14. I can't count how many nights I went to sleep thanks to a Cynthia Meyers rub-out.....

demonrail666 04.11.2010 03:26 PM

last Meyers for a while I think:

Lorna. 7/10. Great gothic Meyer.

Mudhoney. 7/10. Another great bit of gothic Meyer.

noisereductions 04.11.2010 03:28 PM

The Fourth Kind -- actually kind of creepy.

EVOLghost 04.11.2010 03:37 PM

Zoolander. I fuckin' love that movie.

Vixen's an incredible film I think. Probably my favourite Russ Meyer movie. For a softcore T&A film, it's far better than it actually needs to be.

atsonicpark 04.12.2010 07:00 AM

I like Thriller, especially the slow motion stuff haha. But that dude's other movie BREAKING POINT is his real masterpiece...

Alain Delon looks a lot like James Dean.

It was my 3rd time seeing it, so my opinion may be a bit skewed, seeing as I'm a big fan. But, I honestly really enjoy this every time I watch it.

First of all, Christina Lindberg is absolutely gorgeous in this. The eye gouging scene is extremely effective, and the music can be brilliant at times (i.e. the scene with the police sirens). I loved the crude porno shots spliced into the sex scenes, I don't think that the film would feel nearly as filthy without it.

As for the slow-motion kills... I have always loved 'em. Especially the way the streams of blood almost seem solid as they nearly solidify in mid-air.

To me, this film is like a great western. Okay, maybe not a great western...but a raunchy one with subtitles, and more pulp than a gallon of orange juice bought with food stamps.

In other words: it's right up my alley.

atsonicpark 04.12.2010 05:51 PM

Seriously Dr. Eugene, when you get achance.. it may be a bit hard to find.. after I hook you up wth the cg invite, get Breaking Point. It's got all the good things in THriller but it's way, um, "crueler", and better.

Dr. Eugene Felikson 04.12.2010 08:24 PM

I've got a torrent going as we speak. I don't think it has subs, so if you could hook me up. I'd highly appreciate it.

Cool effects, not much else. Not nearly as entertaining as Meet The Feebles or Dead Alive.

noisereductions 04.12.2010 08:28 PM

I love Dead Alive. Meet The Feebles is hilarious. I fucking hate Bad Taste, if only for the vomit drinking scene. I can't take vomit shit.

atsonicpark 04.12.2010 09:20 PM

The copy I have is hardsubbd, Dr. Eugene.

Bad Taste rules, saw it in theaters a few years ago, great film.

Dr. Eugene Felikson 04.12.2010 10:13 PM

Alright, well hopefully this is too. I got it off of pb. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

atsonicpark 04.12.2010 10:55 PM

I got mine from stumpydisks.

vergeef me (forgive me) - 7/10

The most harrowing, harsh portrayal of drug abuse I've ever seen. That being said, it's a bit TOO much, even for me, it was genuinely disturbing and shocking, and sick. But it was all true. Ugh.

tarnation - 6/10

Self-indulgent, but extremely bizarre at times, with some brilliant scenes, just went on too long, and the shittier scenes seemed to outweigh the good ones. Brilliant but frustrating.

Light Sleeper - 7/10

Doesn't add up to much, but it gets by on atmosphere. By the guy who wrote Taxi Driver, and is -- not surprisingly -- very similiar at times. Brilliant direction though.

niklashausen journey - 7/10

Fassbinder never fails to intrigue me. Amon Dull soundtrack...

GeneticKiss 04.13.2010 01:16 AM

?/10

OK, I like the way the film was done, but...I had a different interpretation of it until I read some of the IMDb reviews of it and when I thought back to the movie, their interpretations fit better than mine. So while I enjoyed the presentation and the overall mindfuck-ness of it, the idea that the first 2/3 of the movie are the idealized dream construct of a failed actress and the final third is her downward spiral leading to suicide (indirectly foretold by her dream) is something I find really depressing. What's really tragic is that the story is all too plausible.

So whether or not I fully enjoyed the movie is something I'm still trying to figure out.

atsonicpark 04.13.2010 01:47 AM

No image or title, but I'm guessing you're talking about mulholland drive. And yeah it's a pretty cool movie.

I've not seen that one. Sounds interesting, especially knowing that Amon Duul did the soundtrack.

The Guru. 3/10. Caught it on TV last night. Shit but watchable.
