i love "anyway you want it" and i been meaning to really check out their 70's output.
i like boston too, and "africa" by toto; styx make me laugh when i'm in the mood though, reo speedwagon are too ridiculous not to be funny, foreigner i can't stand. |
really.
hell's pretty rad. i hate every single band everyneurotic just mentioned. |

They are good for a laugh in video form though.. |

most indie rock bands from roughly 98 to today sound like styx, reo speedwagon, journey, only wanting to be pavement instead of led zeppelin.

I hate the fact that I like some modern indie. |

and the fuckin roxy music Quote:
except for vivian girls <3...they sound like the shaggs if the shaggs knew how to actually play their instruments |

doesn't stop them from writing good songs (depending on who you're talking about). Quote:
ugggh, that band was bland and boring. |
aww i love roxy music
|
Bryan Ferry annoys the hell out of me
|
Oh here's one I'm sure to get shit for:
I think Trees Outside the Academy is FAR better than Psychic Hearts, an album that has cool guitar parts with really lame lyrics and vocal arrangements (his vocal inflections basically just mimic the guitar..) its like an album filled with nothing but thurston's lame 'rockers' that you usually either just kind of like or kind of ignore on the regular albums. Trees is filled with very well written songs, sounds fantastic, and the guitars, though mostly acoustic, still manage to sound like Thurston. |

Yeah, well obviously. But even so, are they better because of the keyboards, or in spite of them? |
Eno, Bowie and the Rolling Stones bore the hell out of my brain!
|
TOTA > Psychic Hearts easily
|
my bloody valentine is the only shoegaze band that matters
|
Awesome rock bands with keyboards:
Polysics Devo Causey Way Servotron Phantom Limbs A Trillion Barnacle Lapse Man or Astroman (mostly on record, not live) The Fall Copycat Massacre Holy Shroud Lenore Syndrome Pilot Scott Tracey Vola and the Oriental Machine Brainiac Experimental Dental School Six Finger Satellite Thunderbirds are Now (just the early stuff is awesome) Enon (not a huge fan myself but I knew someone would mention them if I didn't) Probably a billion more if I sit and think. |
Here's my unpopular opinion: My Bloody Valentine has an EP's worth of great songs.

I sware you're Cantankerous sometimes. |

Yes definately. |

I've heard two of those bands, and of those I like only one of them. |
I've heard half of them and like 4.
|

agreed. |

I dont' agree completely. BUT I would tag MBV as "over-rated." |
Agreed on the vast, unwarranted felatio performed on MBV.
|
i don't think they're the end all be all of everything but i do love them muchly and no shitty second-rate shoegaze band like lush and slowdive can even begin to compare to them
|
Cranes?
|
do they even count? they sound more like einsturzende neubauten.
i don't know how unpopular this opinion might be but JESUS JONES SUCKS |
I always thought they had shoegaze sensibilities.
|
somewhat but i wouldn't exactly classify them as shoegaze
|
Oh well, opinions.

Jeff Buckley probably could have matured into a better, more interesting songwriter had he lived longer, but as it stands, he was pretty crap.
Following off that, the only versions of Hallelujah that should have ever been recorded is the Cohen original and John Cale's version. |
I can't take Tim Buckley's voice.

Another one for you.
-Though Macbeth has to be in the top 10 best Sonic Youth tracks, I think The Whitey Album really is a bit crap. |
true.

Agreed, and will add that I think most SYR's aren't that great either. And I still don't see why some view Silver Sessions as an epic masterpiece. ~Jeremy~ |
