Not a masterpeice but very enjoyable even it feels a bit ragged. Nowhere and doom generation are far away his best but still what's to hate about the haunting Mysterious Skin or just plain grim with a sense of humour like the living end.

Never cared that much about smiley face but it's quite decent.

...oh.

atsonicpark 06.22.2010 03:59 PM

Yep..

Duckman lasted 4 seasons.

I think Araki's Teenage Apolcapyse Trilogy as a whole is a masterpiece, should be Criterion re-released. My favorite films by him are Living End (9/10), Doom Generation (10/10), and Mysterious Skin (9/10). I love Araki. Jon Moritsugu is worth a look, if you like Araki. Fame Whore, Scumrock, Terminal USA, and Mod Fuck Explosion are extremely similiar to the Teenage Apocalypse Trilogy, but even more ridiculous.

Apolcapyse trilogy has his two best movies. I saw fame whore for a part but I was 16 then and didn't really like it well yeah it might throw it into the rewatch.

atsonicpark 06.22.2010 04:03 PM

I just love those dirty, nasty, short, rough around the edges, brilliantly hilarious surreal indie films. TERMINAL USA is my favorite of his, it's so spot-on, just so... poignant. Just fucking funny as hell. MOD FUCK EXPLOSION is too good for words, really, that is the first one I saw many moons ago, too bad the dialogue is so low in the mix at times.. that girl in the wedding dress singing about eating shit through a flanger pedal in the bathttub is one of the best scenes ever, too bad you can't understand what she's saying.

SCUMROCK is somewhat of a retread of past efforts, but it has JAMES DUVALL in it! It also has a TV on the Radio guy in it, but who cares about that..

atsonicpark 06.22.2010 04:03 PM

All his films except mod fuck are on netflix now I believe, they just put em up for instant watch a while back I think, though I have owned actual copies for a while. They're all like an hour long too.

FAME WHORE is a big influence on my films, specifically ME MYSELF AND MY THIRD EYE..

HORSEHEAD BOOKENDS! Hahaha. Oh my god, that movie absolutely rules. Easily the greatest horror movie parody AND homage ever. And yes, Student Bodies and Scream are pretty similiar, though Scream is a bit more "serious" (I'd say Student Bodies is more similiar to Scary Movie -- but the idea of Scary Movie was stupid -- how can you do an homage/parody to an homage/parody? It's like someone doing a parody of Naked Gun or something!)

My ratings = Student Bodies: 8/10
Scream: 7/10
Scream 2: 4/10
Scream 3: 3/10

...Ladies and gentlemen, in order to achieve an "R" rating today, a motion picture must contain full frontal nudity, graphic violence, or an explicit reference to the sex act. Since this film has none of those, and since research has proven that R-rated films are by far the most popular with the moviegoing public, the producers of this motion picture have asked me to take this opportunity to say "Fuck you." [the MPAA R-rating logo appears on the screen]

And THe Breather is so much more awesome than Ghostface..

weird. I don't know. I just hated it. And I like to think I "get" the slasher genre, since I've seen hundreds upon hundreds of them numerous times. But yeah.

Dr. Eugene Felikson 06.22.2010 04:08 PM

When I die, I want it to be because someone hates a film of mine, and I want my erect member to be inside the mouth of an intellectual, gothic whorebag at the time of the assassination.

atsonicpark 06.22.2010 04:09 PM

Eh, you like what you like. You're just the only people I've ever seen who doesn't like it. I think it's probably the only horror parody I can stomach, let alone love. It's a lot more intelligent than the latest Chris Seaver shitfest or something.

the frightened woman - 6/10

Some of the strangest and most eye popping set designs ever.. interesting, too long.

Dr. Eugene Felikson 06.22.2010 04:15 PM

Oh yeah, and then there's gotta be another intellectual, gothic whorebag spoon-feeding me Count Chocula while it happens. Preferably dying after all of the cereal is gone, and only milk remains.

atsonicpark 06.22.2010 04:18 PM

Oh, I recently obtained the entire Mark Rappaport filmography. A quick scan reveals brilliant scene after brilliant scene. So far, I've only been able to investigate EXTERIOR NIGHT, but it's great.

8/10

Strange and exciting film.

Can't wait to watch Chain Letters, looks very Jost-y.

I really don't like horror comedy. I mean I can handle SOME comedy IN a horror movie, but... meh.

atsonicpark 06.22.2010 04:24 PM

Yeah, me either.

batreleaser 06.22.2010 09:07 PM

"The Funeral", underrated as hell. Chris Penn kills it.

atsonicpark 06.22.2010 10:34 PM

I love the Funeral. Abel Ferrara is awesome in general though.

Ghostchase 06.23.2010 12:22 AM

Second time watching this, I bought back in 2006 and just now watched it again last night. It been too long since my last viewing, I love this film immensely. I'm a huge fan of Björk and Lars Von Trier's work. I didn't cry at all the second time around, the first time it was waterworks galore.

10/10

atsonicpark 06.23.2010 12:25 AM

Pretty cool film. I've seen all of Von Trier's work and I'm not too big of a fan. But that film stands out as quite an achievement.

Ghostchase 06.23.2010 12:34 AM

Indeed it is, the storyline is so subtle, yet so unique in its delivery. Add the music and dancing, perfect. Top it of with anything with Peter Stormare is awesome too.

Did you like Dogville at all?

Dr. Eugene Felikson 06.23.2010 12:57 AM

w/ live score by Stare Case (Wolf Eyes), Dog Lady, Maths Balance Volumes, Steve Kenney @ the Burton Theatre.

Count Mecha 06.23.2010 01:02 AM

Young Frankenstein and Tremors are quality horror parodies, though Tremors is an extremely thickly veiled one. It's more of a homage probably.

Very cool movie. I didn't think it was that funny though it had seriously hilarious moments, but certainly a great amount of the movie was very dry. I found myself more enjoying the absurdity of this gray artificial streamlined version of France. As opposed to the France that's generally portrayed in movies and television, with older buildings with the shape of age and history, colorful people and fairly cultured. Even characters in the film had this same problem. And all of the french women in the film are smokin, all of those dresses are hot stuff.

I also saw this Frank Zappa documentary on netflix the other day at my brother's house. Don't remember the name, but it was very neat stuff. I am just amazed that he managed to got them to let him play that bicycle stuff on the Steve Allen show. I've only heard Freak Out! admittedly, but after seeing this I borrowed my brother's We're Only In It For The Money record immediately.

That one is out of control. Love it. All the flicking tongues and demons spilling out of wombs, insane.

Yeah of course, it's a documentary about Finnish men. Or maybe more about the sauna being the only place where the Finnish men are allowed to show their feelings and to open up.
One of the best new Finnish films I've seen in a while.

"Naked Finnish men sit in the sauna and speak straight from their heart. In the warmth of rusty stoves these men cleanse themselves both physically and mentally. The film takes us to many different Finnish saunas to let us hear touching stories about love, death, birth and friendship; about life. In all of its simplicity camera records the landscapes, saunas and men in almost magical pictures. The presence of the characters and the depth of the emotion reaches the limit where it is almost intolerable for the viewer to watch. This film reveals the naked souls of these men exceptionally intimately and creates a poetic portrayal of Finnish men."

I had about 40°C fever for the last three days, watched some films + 1½ seasons of Oz

Thanks. gonna see if it is available on the netflix

Rob Instigator 06.23.2010 08:58 AM

while 7 is a very creepy gross thing, I found it just as manipulative and forced as people claim M Night Shamalayan's movies are. The "twist" at the end was obvious.

Seems awful.
I enjoyed the book, big success in France.

batreleaser 06.23.2010 09:30 AM

Brad Pitt was terrible in Seven. He's pretty damn good now but he is no natural actor that's for sure.

(I think he was really good in 7 btw)

atsonicpark 06.23.2010 11:37 AM

Se7en = 10/10

Count Mecha 06.23.2010 12:12 PM

Seven rocks. I really like how they were able to keep Kevin Spacey's involvement minimalized up until he showed up towards the end. That was great. Pitt's acting? Not so great. "What's in the booooox?" "No! No!" "Oh God! Oh God!"

Still, stellar movie.

Rob Instigator 06.23.2010 12:21 PM

so you guys do not think the ending was obvious about 30 minutes ahead of time??

I mean he got famous because he's pretty, not talented. After years of acting coaching and big parts and learning comedy, he's pretty good.

His overacting in Seven is ridiculous, hard to watch for me to be honest. To think he did "Fight Club" only two years later is insane, so much improvement.

atsonicpark 06.23.2010 01:41 PM

His acting in Fight Club is even more ridiuclous. He's awesome in Se7en, fail to see the big deal at all. It's a great, slick mainstream thriller.

Through a Glass Darkly = 10/10

TheFoxBen 06.23.2010 01:42 PM

9/10. I think I like it better than the first one.
