Yeah the Proposition is amazing. "I was a little let down by "The Road", as I don't think it came close to the book, but I still think Hillcoat has potential to put some great flicks out.

Jeff Bridges, and Ted Danson were great, but overall the material was pretty average, and the ending was awful. Zak + Miri was much more entertaining.

toy story 3. 10/10

Guess what? My girlfriend has never seen a Brian DePalma film. Luckily, I have all of them.. so, we're going to watch all of them, except the bad ones. Here's my rating for every BRian DePalma film!:

The Wedding Party - 6/10
Dinoysus - 6/10
Murder A La Mod - 7/10
Greetings - 7/10
Hi, Mom - 8/10
Get To Know Your Rabbit - 6/10
Sisters - 8/10
Phantom of the Paradise - 8/10
Obsession - 7/10
Carrie - 7/10
The Fury - 8/10 (features a body exploding from 13 different angles!)
Home Movies - 7/10
Dressed to Kill - 8/10
Blow Out - 10/10
Scarface - 8/10
Body Double - 9/10
Wise Guys - 7/10
Untouchables - 6/10
Casualties of War - 8/10
Bonfire of the Vanities - 4/10
Raising Cain - 5/10
Carlito's Way - 7/10
Mission: Impossible - 7/10
Snake Eyes - 5/10 (the opening 13 minute shot which appears to have no cuts is one of the greatest ever filmed, though)
Mission to Mars - 4/10
Femme Fatale - 7/10
Black Dahlia - 5/10
Redacted - 5/10

What a career. Okay, he fell of a bit at the end there but jesus. One of the best directors ever, even his bad films have some amazing direction...

His early films, like Hi Mom and Murder A La Mod are just as important as Scorsese's early films (I'm a big Who's THat Knocking At My Door? fan btw).

watched this again. I give it an 8/10. I love most of it, but the last 15 minutes glosses over and changes so much that was in the comic, that it really "ruins" it there.

Didn't you give it a 10/10 before ? I love the whole movie, I give it a 10/10, it's just amazing, I don't care if it's faithful or not (I'm only halfway through the book).

Rob Instigator 06.25.2010 01:42 PM

it is awesome, but the changes made really bother me at the end. the culmination of the book is from regular people's POV and wraps everything up , but the movie's ending annoys me.

atsonicpark 06.25.2010 02:11 PM

I'd give Watchmen a 6/10 probably. Surprisingly well-made, but it just drags on and on. Seems to be all over the place in what it's trying to achieve, compared to how focused the graphic novel is. I also don't like that director's style (the constant slow motion and whatnot).

I thought Carla Gugino was good though...

Rob Instigator 06.25.2010 02:24 PM

what's hilarious is that for all the film's reach, it only "went for" maybe 1/10th of the comic book.

The backstory on all the heroes was so minimal, understandibly so, but it made for a bit of a dilution from what the comic did.

either way, as a movie, it was as dense a film as the comic was a comic.

GeneticKiss 06.25.2010 02:37 PM

I only had two problems with the film adaptation of Watchmen:

First, the ending in essence changed Adrian Veidt to an even more cold "save the world from itself" type of character. Not only did he force his former friend into self-exile, but he made him look like the sworn enemy of all human life! That's beyond low.

Second, the book strongly implied the Comedian was the younger Silk Spectre's real father but left it up to the reader to figure it out in the end. However, the movie had Dr. Manhattan just come out and say it, not only dumbing down the plot but also changing the character for a moment; never is he that direct.

Overall though, an entertaining movie that doesn't completely piss all over the source material like some adaptations have. I'd say a solid 8/10.

atsonicpark 06.25.2010 02:38 PM

It'll get more people to read the comic, so that's probably good at least.

Yeah, what an overrated movie.

Rob Instigator 06.25.2010 03:41 PM

why overrated? I thought it was fucking HILARIOUS. I think it really depends upon whether you have been involved in a days-long debauched bachelor party before. I have been involved with 3. The movie made me laugh harder than I have in a long time. I loved the whole set up of it, how they do not remember anything and have to discover what has happened.

atsonicpark 06.25.2010 04:32 PM

Yeah, maybe. THe actors in it just anoyed me.

Rob Instigator 06.25.2010 04:40 PM

I can see that...

batreleaser 06.25.2010 04:49 PM

I like the ending better in the Watchmen film. Making it seem like Manhattan blew up everything was a way better twist than a stage alien invasion.

Rob Instigator 06.25.2010 05:23 PM

The Doc Manhattan angle removed the part in the book where psychich feedback was sent worldwide and put "sensitives" in comas, while making everyone in the world "hear" the horrendous images that the "alien" was sending to the inhabitants of Earth about the upcoming invasion, as well as "feeling" the death of the alien creature.

I found the Doc Manhattan angle weak and unsatisfying. The world would not put aside it's differences just because one powerful being destroyed 12 cities. Fuighting an alien invasion is something humans can get behind. fighjting a near omnipotent being would just drive the entire planet to madness.

TheFoxBen 06.25.2010 06:46 PM

10/10. Well, yeah, the guys at Pixar never cease to amaze me. I thought it would be impossible to do a BETTER film than Wall·E and UP but they did it: right now, Toy Story 3 is the best computer-animated movie of all time. I suck at writing reviews and I can't give you a satisfying one but I just want to say that this is the perfect adventure movie, entertainment at its best. It is maybe predictable at times and some scenes are just a bit too cliché but these flaws are easily forgettable when you think of all the great things that make Toy Story 3 what I would dare to call a masterpiece.

Also, I didn't see it in 3D. Fuck 3D.

batreleaser 06.25.2010 07:27 PM

Toy Story 3 was pointess in 3D. Great flick though.

And good point about the Watchmen Rob.

batreleaser 06.25.2010 07:29 PM

I thought the Hangover casting was perfect.

A friend of mine met Bradley Cooper at the A-Team premiere a couple weeks ago. Said he was a real down to earth dude.

Supremely interesting, and while being incredibly funny, it is also terribly depressing as well, an aspect of the documentary I didn't anticipate. Chock full of one liners and fascinating moments, it seems like a very well chronicled account of a amateur filmmaker just trying to do anything he can not to do what's normally expected, get a real career, work in a factory, do what you're supposed to. Mark seems so worried about being at the end of his life and looking back at finding himself without any accomplishments. Everyone in the film is ridiculous but at the same time very real. His uncle Bill is probably the highlight of the film beyond Mark himself, he's so doubtful and dismissive, it's out of control. Is Coven any good? I dunno, but what was essentially a trailer for it at the end made it look very watchable.

The Fly is definitely my favorite Cronenberg movie, it's truly terrifying yet really fascinating... One of the best horror/sci-fi movies of all time.
