I actually wanted to know what you thought of the the show as a whole... Just because I liked it doesn't mean it's objectively good. But you pointed out a... wrinkle... in the plot that I hadn't even considered, and I was just wondering if you had any thoughts on the rest of it. |
The Ghost in the shell movie did not make much money last weekend.

it's actually pretty good. I think some of the writing is a bit off, Jonathan Pryce is wasted in it, way too thuggish and involved in the minutia of the BIEC. And the Ooona/Hardy thing is way overplayed. I wish there was more of the Native American PNW stuff in it, those particular Indians were way way weird, as their art and costumes are fucking strange. (Visit the totem pole museum in Vancouver, BC frinstance) Stephen Graham is pretty good in it, nice compass tatoo! And also Jason Watson (edit, WATKINS!), stellar performance from a guy who deserves some awards for his acting. So, loose and unbelievable story, good cinematography, so/so soundtrack. Better than a lot of shit that's on now, for sure:) |

Fuck I didn't even know it was out yet! Haha. I'm a dumb guy. |
I saw a turtle with claustrophobia on TV yesterday. It was very very sad
|
so HUMANS took a turn for the way better towards the end of season 1
went past the replicant repetitions and became something else still a bit slow, but really pleased with it now |
Yeah, Season 2 is pretty good, too. Not breaking a lot of new ground, Niska and Hester are good characters, I could do without Leo and Mia, and the entire Hawkins family....except maybe for the daughter.
|
it's funny to see the chick from the IT crowd as a serious mom
also, leo is fucking MERLIN and i can't stop laughing about that *every fucking time* the dragon was my favorite character in that. thanks, john hurt! but anyway yeah looking forward to S2. |
NEW SEASON OF DOCTOR WHO COMING UP APRIL 15.
Last season for Peter Capaldi's excellent (except for the sunglasses and guitar) take 12th Doctor. Also last season for showrunner Steven Moffat, who has come up with some excellent stories. IN ADDITIIN: A new Doctor Who soon-off, titled CLASS, is also coming out that day. It looks to be on the darker side. Will focus on the students of Coal Hill Academy-- the school where Clara and Danny taught (and the Doctor briefly took up a position as groundskeeper). Should be fucking rad. |

I'm on the last season now. Mind you I started watching it like a couple months ago. |

If I don't get through season 9, i'm probably better off. I'd be fine with just season 8 |
man, i could never get the appeal of that show
the schtick wore out really fast for me |
100% agree.
Don't get the appeal at all. |
You're right. I dread watching it sometimes, but for some odd reason I'm compelled to do so. I think it was either season 6 or 7, there was a joke that was in extremely poor taste. It was at this point where I noticed the show really were using whatever they can to make a joke. Anyways....it's a fun show to have on in the background. But the characters get increasingly more annoying. Even Dr. Cox....man they drove every character into the ground by not evolving their characters whatsoever.

I have zero issue calling it stupidly mindless humor, with poignant mixed in here and there.

Well this serious old guy still watches anime and reads comic books from time to time, and his "serious journalistic career" pays poorly. You see the need for escapism. |

hmmmmmm, found a new French show, Hotel Beau Séjour
looks promising in the same vein of Les Revenants, which I thought was pretty good. 'Caught in an afterlife limbo, teenager investigates her own mysterious death and unravels a web of secrets in her seemingly tranquil village." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E76tcFvrEKQ |

Better Call Saul season 3 has started, and is off to a good, if somewhat slow-to-boil, start. Gonna be a great season.
Doctor Who (2004) season 10, our final journey with Peter Capaldi's #12, is just getting off the ground. Had a great first episode last week. Holy wow! Good stuff! |
yeah, I found it hard to get traction on Saul 3. I'd forgotten a lot of the S2 plotline and actually had to look up who the one old guy was trying to kill....
|
Been watching old episodes RU PAUL'S DRAG RACE with my wife after she gets here from work, burned out for the day and in need of respite.
It's a great morale booster to watch those queens work so hard to entertain. Man, it is hard fucking work. Like Cristiano Ronaldo (another great drag queen) said more or less yesterday post-match, they really "know how to suffer." Bonus: we watched 2 seasons in a row (2013 and 2014) and our favorites won both times. Hell yeah. Ha ha ha ha. Unfortunately we can't download any further and we're looking for a show to replace it. Needs to be easy to watch (no total concentration required/ compatible w/ computer game), provide sufficient laughs, and be positive overall in spite of temporary dramas. |
Braindead?

That's what I'm hearing from a few people actually. But I really love watching Mike and his confident, meticulous, patient investigative long haul plans. And I don't think he's actually trying to kill anyone. I think he's trying to find out who's surveiling him, though it's obviously someone connected to the dealer "kids" from the first season. I think I know why You-Know-Who is doing it. I think this season's going to clean up a lot of loose ends and connect to BB, and then maybe focus on Jimmy/Saul's life post-BB. I always feel like the episode have ended too soon, even though I know intellectually that this isn't the case, and that they all end exactly when they're supposed to, and all last the exact same amount of time. That's a good sign I think, that a show can have that effect. Good for the show, that is. Sometimes infuriating for fans. |
![]() I just watched the first episode of this last night and it was kind of hypnotic. I'm pretty sure I'm going all in. This kind of thing is right up my alley. Papal political intrigue, behind-the-scenes creepiness in the Vatican. Makes me think that HBO might be the place for an adaptation of "The Sparrow" if such a thing ever comes to fruition. The description on iTunes says, "Imagine House of Cards set in a Vatican that's as strange as Twin Peaks..." Seems pretty fitting so far. I am definitely into it based on what I've seen so far. |
sherlock season 4. the first episode heavy but a bit too fucking long. movie-long. i needed a tv-length episode so i had to space out some bits while doing other stuff
before that: the newsroom season 3. why did it have to end so soon? yes super-earnest so what. it's what sorkin does and i like it. before that: betas. which is an amazon original. i was really liking it and they only made one season?? fuckers. i found myself thinking about the characters. before that: rupaul drag race season... oh i forget. 2015 i think? not sure. i didn't like the queens so much on that one and the winner was a disappointment. the previous season was so good i guess this one was a letdown. before that: the durrells in corfu. which was nice and light and entertaning without any real drama. i didn't know that lawrence durrell's lil' brother was a famous zookeeper ha ha ha ha. before that: one mississipi. another amazon original. was a bit meh for my sensibilities but i got caught in the story and had to finish it before that: the americans season 4. still a great show. can't remember what else. |
Symbols, have you been watching Better Call Saul season 3?
I'm watching Silicon Valley and Veep like a muh. Also other stuff. Unfortunately I don't have. STARZ or Showtime, so no American Gods or Twin Peaks for me. :( |

no way. i don't have cable. never/rarely have had it. i get my sports via the web these days. i was gonna install cable last summer but in the end it didn't pan out. turns out i really fucking hate cable. it's 1000 channels of shit i dont wanna watch and when they finally have something i want it's full of fuckingc ommercials and unbearable noises. and yeah i could add a recorder to skip all that but it's more and more money for each new layer/tier/service and i am a fucking prole and watch my money accordingly.. SO... if you look above you'll see it's all either old seasons of stuff or amazon originals or something like that. because. yeah. a full year of soccer is $140 and prime tv is plenty plus a couple of netflix dvds these days because i'm so busy lately i don't have time to watch a lot of movies. i mean, the attention span is hard to support and pausing doesn't work. 25 min TV shows are my new holy grail. one rest pomodoro. |
American Gods.
BTW, xbox 1 now plays MKV files. torrrreeeeentttssssss |

Hope your internet provider doesn't monitor this shit. Hope you don't get a letter threatening legal action. What do you think so far? I've seen none of it, after all these years of waiting for an AG adaptation, I'm letting it happen right in front of me 'cause money and laws. |
