SONIC GAIL 08.11.2010 09:52 AM

i havent seen the old one but does it have any kind of references to the 70's in it? Horror movies seem to mask peoples fears of the time behind blood and monsters.

noisereductions 08.11.2010 09:55 AM

yr quite right... horror films tend to be a reflection of our shared societal fears.

Romero was always into rather overt socio-commentary with his films. For instance the obvious consumeris (we are all stupid consuming zombies in a mall) in Dawn Of The Dead.

and again, look at the piece of shit remake.

SONIC GAIL 08.11.2010 09:57 AM

Oh yeah thats a good one to point out. I have only seen the remake of that too Did not sit well with me for some reason. I only watched it once never really had a desire to watch it again. It is most definitly a play on consumerism though.

noisereductions 08.11.2010 10:01 AM

the original is much better. Trust me on that one.

atsonicpark 08.11.2010 10:46 AM

I hate the remake. The original is a 10/10.

noisereductions 08.11.2010 11:17 AM

I hated the remake as well. I didn't like ANYTHNG about it. The original is um... 8/10.

viewtiful alan redux 08.11.2010 11:21 AM

How do we feel about this syg?:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1242432/

I for one am opposed

atsonicpark 08.11.2010 11:22 AM

I bet it's nothing like the original...

noisereductions 08.11.2010 11:23 AM

OMG why??? Sigh. No it's not going to be close. The original is ... wow.

viewtiful alan redux 08.11.2010 11:31 AM

I mean the sheer concept of remaking it is ridiculous. Its probably just going to imitate and add nothing to the original concept.
You'll have a bunch of cinematically ignorant teens who think they've found thte sickest movie ever, and in fact be experiencing a much weaker version of a fucked up classic... I odn't know I just don't likke this idea.

noisereductions 08.11.2010 11:32 AM

it makes no sense. The original has like 40 mins of rape. I dno't see how they could even TRY to do that now.

SONIC GAIL 08.11.2010 11:33 AM

Another movie about city people being afraid of the country

as a subgenre, that's been played out too much lately. Way too many Texas Chainsaw ripoffs.

It's like when Hostel came out I was all excited, but by the time Touristas and that one with Elisha Cuthbert hit DVD I was soooooo sick of torture pr9n.

SONIC GAIL 08.11.2010 11:39 AM

same here i liked hostel but it died there

noisereductions 08.11.2010 11:41 AM

I guess it's around a 7,5/7 point, it's so great even it dated not that well. Well it was mean girls to the 90's I guess...

exactly. It was sort of my Mean Girls until Mean Girls came and totally trumped it. MG = 10/10.

automatic bzooty 08.12.2010 01:04 PM

terminator 2. somehow i have lived for nearly two decades and had not seen one terminator movie in full until approx. two days ago. uh.

davenotdead 08.12.2010 01:05 PM

heartbreakers... lol, i liked it. gene hackman and ray liotta [and pre-funny zach galifianakis]

and ferris beuller's day off, for like the 10th time. maybe the best feel-good movie ever

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 08.12.2010 01:06 PM

the acting was often sub-par but it was overall a decent film, with nice effects and a delightful premise..

perhaps Robin Williams was not the best casting and Cuba Gooding Jr was terrible beyond explanation, but some-how I still enjoyed it, perhaps its my mushroom drenched mind..

Rob Instigator 08.12.2010 01:29 PM

what dreams may come is a sad movie.

Count Mecha 08.12.2010 03:06 PM

Lonesome Jim and Living In Oblivion are both riots, funny movies. I probably prefer Oblivion.

A while back in this thread there was talk about that Tommy Wiseau film The Room. And I had commented that I'd only seen one scene and dismissed it pretty heavily. Well this is my moment of clarity. The Room is easily one of the most colorful trainwrecks of cinema. It fails in every possible way which is paradoxically why it all works. Plots conceived and abandoned immediately, characters that 180 their motivations on a dime, sometimes several times in a single scene! Four sex scenes, one a repeat of the first, three of which occur in the first half hour of the film, and a mom that regularly visits her daughter for only minutes at a time. As I watched the film I found myself wondering if there was some real significance to the events of the film instead of just immediately labeling them pointless. Such as that alley scene or wherever the hell they were tossing that football around. Speaking of the football, it features so heavily in the movie, more than certain characters, I just wonder if it's the lynchpin to the whole damn movie, that is actually holds some cosmic significance that everyone has missed. Tommy Wiseau easily steals the show, almost every scene without him is fairly boring because you're just waiting for him to get back into the mix. What a movie, I can't wait to see it again.

atsonicpark 08.12.2010 03:20 PM

Yeah, as I said, The Room is a 10/10 easily. I've watched it 15 times in the past year.

Rob Instigator 08.13.2010 11:53 AM

1/10
Man. I gave up after 35 minutes. Just unbearably not funny. I laughed twice. I find it hard to laugh at idiots. feelings of pity and loathing overwhelmed any lafffs

then I watched this

10/10 Loved it.

noisereductions 08.13.2010 11:54 AM

I don't know how to connect with you Rob.

atsonicpark 08.13.2010 12:00 PM

black sun - 10/10

A blind man makes a movie. It ends up being entertaining, unlike Jarman's "Blue".

atsonicpark 08.13.2010 06:08 PM

atsonicpark 08.13.2010 06:08 PM

lantana - 8/10

GeneticKiss 08.14.2010 02:30 AM

Drag Me To Hell

3/10

The ending ruined what was already a bland movie only slightly redeemed by some cool effects. I mean, c'mon: so what if she denied that old lady an extension on her mortgage? Aren't gypsies nomadic anyway? Why would she live in a house for 40 years? Plus all the relatives at her funeral; couldn't they have helped her out? It's not worth damning some poor farm girl who's trying to make it in the city over!!!

I hope Sam Raimi stubbed his toe after finishing up the script on this overrated pile of drek.
