^ I didn't post about this because AlSonic had already mentioned it (see above). But it's all good, dude - sweet pic. :D

Funny thing was I got two emails from Bandcamp, each with a different link: one is the one you posted and the other leads straight to the epic NOT Lee Ranaldo page:

Just out of curiosity, is it common for the mp3 to cost more than a (double!) CD these days? And for mp3 and flac to be the same price?

I wonder if they ever fixed the error with the original pressing - "Six (4th take)" was missing nearly a minute on the CD, but is complete on the vinyl.

No, that's bonkers and stupid. Now, if we're talking high resolution lossless files, online stores like HDtracks sometimes charge more than the cost of the CD version on, say, Amazon. But on the other hand there's Bandcamp, where you get a neat-o physical/download/stream combo without even asking for it.

Usually FLAC/WAVs cost a bit more than mp3s - the reason in the beginning was that a bigger slice of the store's bandwith was needed to deliver big files to the buyer. That doesn't really hold now; again, on Bandcamp you get all the formats you want and even those you don't want. :D Bandcamp rules!

What?! That's fucked up! I don't think the CD version has changed over the years...

posted this in the Sonic 2024 thread because it's co-compiled by Steve Shelley!

Really Insane - A Lou Barlow Compendium

by Sentridoh

Quote:

Lou Barlow personified home recording's rise in the late 80's and was arguably one of the few key players that changed the trajectory of songwriting as the 90's charted its cultural course. For the 30th anniversary of his Really Insane 7" and Winning Losers EP, Emil Amos and Steve Shelley have compiled an overview of Lou's best solo work under the name 'Sentridoh'. Based around an even mix of legendary tracks and extra deep cuts, this compilation focuses on Lou's arrangement innovations, signature textural explorations and radical ability to turn psychological upheaval into classic songs.
credits

released November 15, 2024

*The definitive collection of Lou Barlow’s (Dinosaur Jr., Sebadoh, Folk Implosion) early masterworks

*features 20 tracks remastered by Carl Saff from Barlow’s early 90’s home-recording peak

*culls from 6 different releases (which are all out of print) to create the ultimate collection for newcomers or collectors

*features 7 tracks that have never been on vinyl

* compiled by Emil Amos and Steve Shelley

personal note:
I love Lou Barlow, but not so much this Sentridoh. Some tracks are amazing, most are not IMHO
But 16 dollars for the digital album?? wtf!?

From what it looks like to me older bands (i.e. ones who existed pre-downloading) tend to price their dls higher than bands who came up in the dl era.
