Exactly. If money is tight you can still pick up a decent enough eighties Japanese turntable for less than £20 on ebay. A bit more will get you a Rega. Tons of music is only ever released on vinyl and I can't imagine not having a turntable. |
When you're 16 and don't have that much money, you rather buy CDs than buy a turntable...

I wonder if "Dreamfinger" is the "previously unreleased studio session."
I always meant to do a picks disc that had "J'Accuse Ted Hughes" and "Fauxhemians" on it, but they never quite made the cut. |

i'll just say i agree with sway. although i do think a limited release would be fun/cool.
i dont know if thurston is bullshitting or not but this idea of limited releases, he mentions it a couple of times in recent interviews. if i remember talking about it he really liked the idea of a release that would be only available to people who went to a concert on that day and thats it. he also mentions he digs the hands on process, like actually personally making the thing, thats where hand written label or cover could come in. then the cd or record becomes almost like an art object. well, it is an art object, if they take it that far. |
Jetengine are you welsh?

Dreamfinger is on the Dirty delux 2nd disc, and so is not unreleased.

oh yeah barracuda

I like the vinal. I can't manipulate cd's and mp3s the way I can spin a record!
Fisher Price works FINE! Find one at a thrift store for 10 bucks. and it was Chemosake of Minneapolis who did the imaginary gig in your head. I still have the concert poster. It was by invitation only. |
Even though it's "vinyl only," are we sure that it won't be for sale digitally? I mean eMusic has SYR's 1-6, as well as the "Death Valley 69" 7" single and even the fanclub live albums. There's a pretty good chance that even though it won't be sold on CD there could be a digital version for sale.

or a code for free download when you buy the vinyl? some peeps be doin' that as of late...
|
a vinyl only release is a great idea. cd's are garbage and should be phased out.
|
Yeah, my Yo La Tengo vinyl of I Am Not Afraid Of You came with a mp3 code. Already had the files so I passed it off to my mate.

speaking of art projects, i went to Whitney yesterday and painter Rudolf Stingel once did an art piece where he put out a book with detailed instructions on how to make one of his paintings, then i guess the person who bought the book and followed the instructions could make a "Rudolf Stingel" painting: here is a link: http://www.artnet.com/artwork/424443...tructions.html
I wonder if the same concept could be applied to music, maybe with detailed instructions on film that would go to music, then people would send in their films, then you put a show on with all those films together. i dont know, might be interesting. or even with a music score, though then that would be simply a commissioned work, so nothing novel in that. |
from the interview with Lee mentioned (and posted) by vish here:
http://www.sonicyouth.com/gossip/sho...d.php?p=487374 Lee: " We've got a couple new records coming out on our SYR label... 7 and 8 are coming out in the next few months" :D :D well, not groundbreaking news, but it's nice to hear them from lee's voice ;) |
Is there any chance they come back on their decision to issue it only on vinyl?
|
I can't believe people are bitching about a vinyl only release. Cheap turntables are not hard to find. Even if yr a teenager. I was 16 once and had to save up lunch money to buy records. Or tapes or cds. Also, it's not like SYR 7 is going to be expensive. I don't know... All this bitching just seems dumb...
If you want it, you'll buy it... |
