Yes, it seems to be a grower (like most of their previous records).

sounds like a very 'open' album...

can't wait for december. want to hear it on my stereo (and loud!)

SynthethicalY 10.10.2007 06:14 PM

I am barely listening to it, I will tell you about it later.

SynthethicalY 10.10.2007 07:04 PM

I like it, it is good. I have to listen to it more so I can make my final conclusion.

k-krack 10.10.2007 07:44 PM

I should probably listen now, so when it comes out, I like it 18 times more...
They're such a grower band.
I couldn't stand Hail to the Thief (especially this one, but the others too) when I first got it, and now it's one of my all time favourites (of ALL TIME!!!).

I still don't want to listen yet...

From what I have heard so far, a wonderful album, well worth the listen... Not much filler here, the music is impecabbly rendered, as should be expected. My initial 'clinical' reaction is that this album is reminiscent of electronic artists like kid 606 or scott heron - but tempered with a shimmering, almost aquatic sheen that permeates every sound, from the subtly echo-ed snares to the ringing reverb drench of the vocals (in some songs). Thom's voice might turn some people away, as usual, but if you can piece his voice into the whole framework of the music, you'll be rewarded with a worthwhile listen... My two cents, thank you for reading...

Kylerobert 10.10.2007 07:57 PM

I think this is one of his best vocal displays out of all the albums.

ZEROpumpkins 10.10.2007 09:33 PM

Stop praising it! I still have two months to wait.

You're welcome!
Videotape is the new Fog. ah ha.
Now I want a tour.

Torn Curtain 10.11.2007 04:38 AM

I think I still need a few more listens, but I can say I'm disappointed by Videotape (compared to the live versions - including the one from the show at Rock en Seine which I attended). It's a bit like Motion picture soundtrack for which the early live version works better in my opinion.

LifeDistortion 10.11.2007 04:46 AM

Radiohead have never disappointed me. I feel like I should be open to critizing them more, comparing the album to thier best stuff. I heard the live Spin collection they put together on thier site, and I just burnt the album onto CD, yet to listen to it. I know its not terrible, at worst its a really good album.

Actually that's exactly what I meant :), in my opinion Fog done live at the "famous" artè acoustic live is much better than the studio recorded one.
Same goes for videotape, the version "From the Basement" is soooo beautiful.
But, hey, even the "in rainbow" version isn't bad.

PAULYBEE2656 10.11.2007 06:06 AM

body snatchers is just an incredible song.....

Or, have you heard the pre-OK computer version of No Surprises? The one recorded live at Planet Paradiso with only an acoustic guitar and different lyrics. I thought that one was much better than the album version.

Stijn 10.11.2007 10:52 AM

What's a fair price for the download?

AllHandsOnTheBigOne 10.11.2007 02:36 PM

$0

In fact, based on the quality of the album, I would say $0 is probably too much.

this version does not stand up to these songs live versions..

alyasa 10.11.2007 08:39 PM

I don't think $0 would be fair or appropriate... There is definitely a factor of musicianship involved within this album that has value beyond just a couple of digitally-rendered audio files. True, it might not be worth as much as you would like it to be, but I liken it to a band playing in a venue with an entrance fee. The fact that the band is playing there and you don't like it, doesn't change the fact that you have to earn the right to gain access to the venue in the first place, namely by paying the entrance fee. After you've done that, and you've determined that the band sucks, then you have the choice to ignore the band's subsequent performances and you can have a say by voicing your opinions on the band, or by spreading word on the band's quality. But it would be unfair and detrimental to the artist and to art in general, to pay $0, just because you can... You owe them at least 6-8 bucks, which would be the price you'd pay for a self-pressed CD sold by hand by a local garage indie band...

pbradley 10.11.2007 09:14 PM

I paid $0 for the mp3s because I will be paying for the CD release when that comes out. These files are just promo to me.

alyasa 10.11.2007 09:31 PM

Yeah, if you're going to buy the CD later on, then this download is more like a sampler. I have a feeling the CD might contain more tracks, and as well the audio quality is going to be better, because even if you have an MP3 player, you can rip the tracks in any format and at a higher level quality in terms of bitrate or compression. But, for those who might want to stick to this and not get the CD, I think it would be fair to give them compensation. It's hard work making music.
