It closed after two weeks. But the guy who wrote the book for the musical (David Lindsay-Abaire) is a genius. Everyone else sucks.

Apparently they're making Fight Club a musical. Music by Trent Reznor.

davenotdead 01.11.2008 07:13 PM

i love natasha gregson wagner though. also, the movie does have some funny parts

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 01.11.2008 07:18 PM

Empire Records is another music movie that is incredibly mundane music-wise.

I'd like High Fidelity better if it was more about his love for music than his problems with women.

Everyneurotic 01.11.2008 07:20 PM

why don't they make triumph of the will: the musical?

i mean, they eventually will get there, they are running out of ideas for musicals.

In all seriousness, Triumph Of The Will is one of the more visually stunning and artfully photographed films i have seen. Certainly a pretty incredible work of propaganda.
And definitely better than even the most supposedly "hip" Date Movie.

Everyneurotic 01.11.2008 07:24 PM

by the way, when are they doing the remake of birth of a nation?

i would so watch triumph of the will, if just to see what it really is in it's entirety.

Savage Clone 01.11.2008 07:25 PM

You should watch it. I'm dead serious.

would've been better in color though. you can say what you like about the Nazis, but they did do color so well

Savage Clone 01.11.2008 07:25 PM

Red and black are a Mighty combination.

triomphe de willems is a very well made piece of cinema obviously the nazi propaganda machine that funded it thought so too. leni reifenstahl made some absolutely beuatiful images, just a pitty what they were made for.

Everyneurotic 01.11.2008 07:29 PM

birth of a nation is awesome the way it is, but, if they remake it, they need to make it a trilogy like the lord of the rings and do the civil war battles like those epic cgi shit.

but yes, in all seriousness, i will watch triumph of the will some day.

No, there are plently of wonderful, smart original musicals but they'll never get produced on BROADWAY. As it is sung in the song "An Original Musical" from the awesome musical [title of show]-

"And i'll make Broadway my eternal address"

"Woah, easy motherfucker, Broadway? Let's start with off and off-off and then you can think about the great white way."

"But why can't I dream big?"

"Well, if it was a jukebox musical, a revival, or a recognizable commodity I would say 'Dream away, biotch'. But original? On Broadway? Baby that is risky."

I'm done.

I find it best to watch whilst burning some human flesh. Just gives it that authentic Nazi feel
