Republican alert! IMO Straight Edge is kinda like a religion, which is ironic considering the ideals of punk. You're just eventually going to get run over by a truck or something like that so why not have some fun? Though I do like that they discourage fighting in the mosh pit. I hate random punk kids who hit people in the face for no reason. |
straight edge kids are a bunch of fucking sheep
anyone who self-applies any kind of label belonging to a group of people is a fucking sheep and i feel no sympathy for people this stupid. |

fugazi never labeled themselves a straight edge band. minor threat wasn't even a straight edge band. ian mackaye didn't mean to make it in to what it has become. |
he went along with it.

he just claimed he was straight and that's about it. |
LOL

pardon any spelling errors i'm not doing very well |
I always try to get straight edge kids to drink.
I'm evil. |
fugazi are sometimes good, sometimes boring on record.
but it's onstage where the band really shines. best comedy band ever! |

So do I. |
I have nothing against people who choose to be 'straight edge' if they're genuine. Why should I care? It doesn't affect me at all.
It's funny how it's even cooler to hate the whole 'straight edge' thing than it is to actually be 'straight edge'. Hating it is a movement within itself. |
okay, no, here's what it is
i don't mind if people don't do drugs or are against drugs, drinking, smoking etc. i have absolutely NO problem with that. it's people who run around going "look at me, i don't do drugs, i'm straight edge, aren't i cool? i have fugazi vinyls! i bought them at my local record store because i am toootally into nonconformity and not supporting the man and other things that members of my particular subculture like to blather on about!" that i can't stand. i want to grind their teeth into the sidewalk |

the straight edge kids i hung out with (i'm sure most of the run of the mill straight edge kids acted like this) hated fugazi because they weren't hardcore enough. they also thought ian sold out because he wouldn't take part in the lifestyle. they were way in to earth crisis and vegan reich instead. |

Most of them people are against Fugazi because "Minor Threat are soooo much better, man!" People run around shouting out alot of things, often to the point of nauseation. Look at this board, it's enough to make you wanna go straight edge with how 'cool' drugs are. |

why would he put down a lifestyle choice for no reason. especially one that is anti drug like he is. he has said in countless interviews that he does not agree with the violent and right wing aspects (anti abortion and other hardline thought) of the movement. |
i know too much about ian mackaye for my own good.

You're probably not a good candidate for drug use then, Lily.
|
I dont like them either.
|
It's just another example of gang culture which is why i don't like it... but I've never fitted in anywhere so i've got a motive to dislike it.
I've always thought mackaye was a decent fellow and quite informative, like he gives a good interview and things. Fugazi though - yeah, I'm not really that into them though i do think they're good... I think it's too much of that american punk cadence that i dont get on with. |
