word

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kS-YTlJZOl0

the guitar in this song is kinda perfect, shame the vocals are SO HIGH IN THE MIX. the chorus is great though cause frusciante is louder than that anthony idiot

i read an interview with him recently where he said he hates the production of rhcp albums because rick rubin or whoever puts the vocals highest and gets rid of all the intricacies john puts into the guitar sounds

atsonicpark 01.21.2011 03:09 PM

Rick Rubin is a HORRIBLE producer. I've always said this. I remmeber Rolling Stone or whoever calling him the best producer of all time. And people still take Rolling Stone seriously. Okay.

Do you happen to have a link to that interview? I want to start obsessing over Frusciante some more. I want to read every word.

Did you hear the shitty guitarist named Omar / genius Frusicnate album yet?

Dosed. this song is cool.

Remember that one frusciante song that Cazy Town sampled? Crazy Little ditty I think? Great fucking song.

Derek 01.21.2011 03:13 PM

it's here somewhere http://invisible-movement.net/articles

he talks about shadows collide with people so i'll guess it's in the 2003 or 2004 articles

i've not heard the omar album, i hate ataxia so i dunno about his collabs with other people

why didn't vincent gallo use frusciante's songs in the brown bunny? those great songs are just sitting there for no reason now

all these videos are from the year smile from the streets you hold came out

this is insane. john playing an outdoor festival in a park with kids going about it seems. first part is a few acoustic songs and for the second half john is joined by a drummer and bassist, straps on a jazzmaster and churns out an unreleased song and a nirvana cover (moist vagina!)

a club show where he jams with a band and then does an electric version of my smile is a rifle

FUCK YES!

thanks derek!

soulseek still not working btw. fuck!

tcpotbntmy 01.21.2011 05:40 PM

I actually quite like By the Way as an album for the most part and it's definitely because John wrote it.

lungfish 02.04.2011 12:08 PM

I heard somewhere that Niandra LaDes was recorded during the BSSM sessions or late '90/early '91, and that Usually Just a T-Shirt was recorded after he left the band. I thought it was all written after but I'm not so sure.

Frusciante's taste has always been wide, his Ornette Coleman tattoo a testament to his predilection for experimental music. I personally have nothing against the RHCP, Flea as a bassist or even Kiedis as a singer, but that's all personal taste. They're a rock band rooted deeply in funk and if you're not into that than of course you're not going to like them. Even Frusciante himself is, majorly, a funk lover and is what caused him to fall in love with the band in the first place, as well as his love for punk, etc. Then again, I realize this isn't a RHCP's thread hahah. Just wanted to give my two cents.

Frusciante's solo output is most definitely interesting and rewarding. The song 'Mascara' is probably one of my favorite recorded pieces ever, an audio work of art. Same with 'Running Away Into You', a title that to this day blows me away with its contradiction. For me, it's a beautiful mixture of words and music. He's definitely a lover of words and experiments with them to wonderful effect. To quote John, "I've been writing nonsensical things that trip my head out since I was a little kid and a lot of my songs are just a conglomeration of little ways of bending reality with words." (i.e. shadows colliding into people, running away into the very person you're running away from, etc)

The second part of Niandra Lades is believed to be recorded during his last tour with the band. I wouldn't say he is a major funk lover though as his funk style for the RHCP stuff was directly linked from RHCP's previous guitarist Hillel Slovak. Though he does love Parliament and Funkadelic.

lungfish 02.04.2011 01:32 PM

So yeah, Usually Just a T-shirt was recorded during the late '91-May '92 tour. But Niandra, I've heard, was recorded before the break up and even before BSSM recording sessions. Not entirely sure. I don't have the actual record so I don't know if it has the recording dates in there.

Maybe 'major' was the wrong word haha. He's not as connoisseurish as say Flea is, but, as you say, Parliament/Funkadelic is a definite love.

Derek 02.04.2011 01:34 PM

I read Niandra was recorded in the haunted mansion during the BSSM sessions, yeah.

I have shadows collide with people somewhere - i never much cared for it. this stuff is making me want to check out some more

Derek 02.04.2011 03:33 PM

Shadows Collide With People is easily, hands down his WORST solo album. I still enjoy it though.

i wouldn't say it's his worst album. i think Curtains is. The Past Recedes is the only good song on there. which is surprising considering it's an acoustic album. and i usually dig his acoustic tunes.

Shadows Collide With People is a great album. Wednesday's Song is one of my all time favorite songs of his. next to I'm Always from Smiles. which is a FUCKING fantastic album.

Derek 02.04.2011 07:04 PM

I think Curtains is one of his best. Love every song on there.
