Nah, emo short emocore which was a diss used against Rites of Spring, Embrace and that like. However, like any hardcore scene, the fans "made it their own" and started calling every other band emo even though MacKaye called it stupid from the get-go. Didn't help that a bunch of decent post-hardcore bands got called that, too. And then some indie rock bands for some reason. Next thing you know, it is the most vague pseudo-genre of the 90's. And then in the 00's, all the teenagers got upset that the generation before (mine) didn't do anything culturally relevant so they latched on to the last thing not raped by pop culture and proceeded to rape it.

Of course this is just my theory and I wasn't there. But regardless Moss Icon and Indian Summer have some sick songs.

i was just saying that because i think emo is a dumb term to call a band when all bands have emotions.

i can't believe people actually call themselves emo now. i guess they don't understand the root of the word.

Well it is a dumb term, always has been since the late 80's. Besides, from what I've heard, the "classic" emo bands were more Slint-inspired post-hardcore. Most "emo kids" can't stand it.

yeah indian summer and moss icon was good stuff. frail was another good band i used to listen to. i sold their 7 inches for big bucks on ebay.

i used to listen to a lot of the more "indie emo" bands. i still have 4 minute mile by the get up kids in my collection.

William Burroughs would complain of the same about punk-- he said "I always thought a punk was someone who took it up the ass".

Words mutate.

Often unfortunately.

Rob Instigator 04.11.2008 01:47 PM

punk still means someone who takes it up the ass

"punk rock" was used as a derogatory term referring to music made by lowlife "fags", and "hustlers"
