I'm not sure what you mean by that. He wants me not to believe this happened? If that's what he wants, then he got it.

There are grammy awards for other categories than rock.

Daycare Nation 05.26.2006 06:08 PM

And no, I'm not messing with anyone. My friend is in a band that won a grammy and he told me this story in 1994.

kingcoffee 05.26.2006 07:24 PM

Why can't you just tell us the name of the band. SY isnt going to do anything about it. BUt if they do, it wil just support you're alegged accusations that SY can be douche bags. I've heard a few fan accounts about how the band can be very apprehensive and rather hostile to fans. But I've also heard the opposite. Maybe they were just caight on a bad day. Wrong side of the bed, ya know? But to destroy other people's property without any reembursment is pretty low. That's like shitting on someone's couch during a tea party. Also, depending on the band you're buddy was in could matter a lot. What if your friends band were douche bags themselves? Then it would turn out that SY were heroes. I would love to see Thurston smash Billy Joel Armstrong's equipment. Or any of the other assholes who consider themselves punk rockers. Maybe your friend was asking for it. But then again who knows? Maybe SY are just dicks who used to be able to rock out and are now past their creative prime and are just kind of sad and pretentious.

if you dont have any proof, such as a name, why even post this story its fuckin worthless. Without a name we cant even start in discovering if its true....

I wasn't trying to identify your friend's band, but to illustrate that there's nothing implausible about SY playing with grammy winners, as someone had suggested.

alyasa 05.26.2006 11:53 PM

I guess Daycare Nation wants people to take his word for it.

Daycare Nation 05.27.2006 12:24 AM

My question was, would it bother anyone if it were true?

No one seems to be answering that--they seem more concerned with discovering who my friend's band is.

terminal pharmacy 05.27.2006 12:39 AM

wow that is very oleaginous response, the first step of verifying any story is discovering who the accuser is, and yes it would bother me if it were true. stop being teflon...

Daycare Nation 05.27.2006 12:41 AM

How can you verirfy whether it is true by knowing the name of my friend's band? That's stupid.

Daycare Nation 05.27.2006 12:45 AM

I don't know what Assblaster is saying, but it's probably stupid, since I'm ignoring his ass.

Daycare Nation 05.27.2006 12:50 AM

What I said before.

Daycare Nation 05.27.2006 12:54 AM

LOL

stirling 05.27.2006 12:59 AM

It matters which band because if they destroyed U2's equipment then I'd like them more.

Daycare Nation 05.27.2006 01:01 AM

Well, if anyone would like SY more for destroying a certain kind of band's instruments, that's all the more reason for me not to say who it is.

Daycare Nation 05.27.2006 01:16 AM

wow, i wonder what kind of juvenile crap is coming out of assblaster's ass-mouth

Daycare Nation 05.27.2006 01:27 AM

The point of the story was that they borrowed them so they could destroy the shit out of them.

They were saying 'oh can we BORROW your instruments?'

and then of course because they are Sonic Youth the answer is yes...

and then they find out what 'borrow' means when the instruments are destroyed...

that was what my friend said

atari 2600 05.27.2006 01:39 AM

Most likely Daycare Nation's ex-roommate's tale is an exaggerated one. Let us assume that items were, in fact, borrowed. Usually an account such as his has some grain of truth to it, & I'll refrain from a blanket assertion that it is a complete fabrication. Sonic Youth probably re-strung the guitars with very heavy guages & tuned them exceedingly tight as they are wont to do & damaged the tuning pegs, hairline fissured the neck at the base or busted a bridge or something during their performance. That is, if any damage did, in fact, occur. It is readily known that they can be rough on instruments & the like sometimes. I can never imagine that they actually "destroyed" loaned equipment. Any damage that ensued was certainly not deliberately maliciously intentional.
That's my take & you can take it to the bank.

Things like this routinely get blown out of proportion & embellished for effect by all parties involved because people are bored & it makes for a better story in their warped minds that have little to no respect for the truth of things.

I figured that after four pages of second guessing & jibber-jabber, sixty-six replies & close to six hundred views, that someone might appreciate a sensible response, so I posted.

Again, that's the most likely explanation. I didn't write what I wrote to offer excuses or plausible deniability for Sonic Youth's sake, because this event as described never happened. Hearsay doesn't hold water in a court of law & it doesn't fare well under scrutiny on a Sonic Youth message board either given the nature of the charge.

Daycare Nation keeps going back to this question & it's a rather moot point because Sonic Youth fans should not be put on the spot & forced to answer a question like this when the alleged incident is based solely on hearsay. And of course people want to know which band his ex-roommate is in to gain more information to possibly further this debate, because their curiousity has been piqued, & also to test his credibility, naturally. It seems both surprising & odd that Daycare Nation would not realize this himself & that he would be such a doggedly tireless advocate for his ex-roommate's yarn. At any rate, his diatribe has been resoundingly blown to smithereens & an airtight case for reasonable doubt has been made by myself.

I think a smarmy khchris(original)-inspired "Next" is apropos & indeed, for once, actually warranted at this moment.
