Yeah but Wacko hasn't realised that he's not a 12 year old anymore, has he?

ZEROpumpkins 07.04.2008 04:02 AM

Regardless, what kind of 12 year old has sex with other 12 year olds?

sarramkrop 07.04.2008 04:09 AM

The ones you read about on the papers.

ZEROpumpkins 07.04.2008 04:15 AM

but the question is one which i've thought of a lot
Yes, we should still listen to Sonic Youth's music as the Art is seperate from the Artist. And yes i think i would.
But to be honest, i might react diferently to other artists.

I did think that something like that would turn me off from a band but there you go. It just shows that we (i) pick our (my) Morals to suit a situation.

Its like a news story recently about Ian Curtis's grave stone being robbed. That made me feel bad (for about a minute) but the story of WW2 vet's Plaques being knicked and soled for scrap made me smile

go figure

Witch hunts, witch hunts, witch hunts--all born of ignorance, scapegoating and conformist crowd psyches. By the standards being laid down in the courts and media of countries like the U.S., the U.K. and increasingly Canada (under sexually repressed/envious Stephen Harper and his Tories), about 65% of all rock stars (and other artists) past and present are paedophiles. Most of their fans and the academics who study the arts are also paedophiles or paedophile sympathisers, by the same standards.

My thoughts on such sexual matters? The so-called 'age of consent' begins with puberty, or very shortly after--to argue against this is to argue against one's own biology. I don't know about anyone else, but I didn't turn 18 or 21 or something, and then suddenly break out in pubic hair, with a craving for alcohol and a knowledge of partisan politics. In other words, maturity of all types is relative. To try and place legal ages on such stuff is like spitting in the wind. Only the truly dumb would argue otherwise.

Some famous rock 'paedophiles': Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Mick Jagger, Bill Wyman, Jim Morrison, Iggy Pop, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, Marc Bolan, Phil Taylor, Ted Nugent, etc., etc.

As for Sonic Youth, they've used a William S. Burroughs painting for an album cover, so they're probably already presumed to be bedding down with 6-year olds, mutated sheep, dead aliens and wrecked cars.

thanks, that wasn't a joke, though.

I think there is a connection between your perception of an artist and your perception of his or her art. For example, if the song Ja Accuse Ted Hughes (which I like) wasn't written by Sonic Youth but Paul Weller instead, I would dislike it and call it 'boring' and 'pseudo-experimental horseshit': I'd convince myself this was correct because Paul Weller annoys me.

More realistically, if Bob Dylan released an album tomorrow that was better than Another Side Of, I would call it a 'return to form' at most but regard it as average in the context of his career because it's a different era (I attach an extra, abstract 'meaning' to his albums made in the sixties), he's too old (no old man is going to tell me what's going on) and he's released too many albums already. None of them are anything to do with the music itself; it's just that such details effect how I interpret the music. Similarly if Neil Young’s Tonight's The Night wasn't made in the circumstances it was, I probably wouldn't be as tolerant of its dull, dingy atmosphere.

In conclusion if Lee Ranaldo bummed kids I would continue to listen to Sonic Youth but skip the 'Lee songs'.

sexual maturity does not come through puberty though does it?

Neither does it come at a set age (16/18/21/whatever)
