Sell Out means to betray, not to make money. Usually when a band sells out, it betrays it's ideals, artistic motivation, fans, or whatever in order to make money.

Modest Mouse sold out because they betrayed the idea of making good music in order to make money.

Sonic Youth has never ceased to make good music.

Ever notice how Sonic Youth resemble a certain famous super-team from Marvel Comics...? Maybe they should begin each of their shows with Steve shouting from his drum kit, "Flame on!!!"

al shabbray 08.19.2008 10:50 AM

hahaha, then thurston comes from the roof, lee ninja-smoke-cloud appears and kim floats from the back to the front

Kallisti23chaos 08.19.2008 11:12 PM

.

i dont think you can say that really. You might not have liked the songs Modest Mouse released but you've no way of knowing what their intentions were.
unless you were their 1st drummer who they kicked out to make the mega bucks? then you'd know

harlock_jds 08.20.2008 07:53 AM

that 500,000$ is likely the total amount from the show (plus merch sales) and doesn't take into account costs (like paying roadies, tech, soundcrew, merch sellers, Ibold, etc).

I'd guess they might have cleared half of that (at most) after expenses which would be split among the core band half of which would be eaten up by taxes.

So they made 30 to 50 K each for the tour... which ain't much

Good for them. They deserve it.

vonslagle 08.20.2008 03:18 PM

durka durka

Gross is one thing...Profit is another.
It costs coin to be in the music industry or do anything for that matter. Alot of bands perform at a loss...

nicfit 08.20.2008 04:03 PM

I made them their share of 20 euros richer today.

viewtiful_alan 08.20.2008 09:28 PM

Its not like they over charge for shows, so they made that money on their own merit in my eyes.
Good for them.

Kosako 08.22.2008 02:23 PM

Hey guys, if you made that amount of money, ya could come to Argentina for free??? Please!!!
