Actually America already is a Socialist state in a lot of ways. I don't think that is necessarily good or bad, but it's funny to hear the neo-cons go on about fear of socialism when they don't even know what it is. Farm subsidies, gas price manipulation, FEMA, Medicade, Social Security, the list goes on.

No we aren't as overtly socialist as France or England, but anyone who thinks we really have a free market economy is seriously delusional, and that was before the supposed neo-con capitalist Bush administration Treasury Department bought controlling stocks in all of the major financial institutions!

Even Bush's inane No Child Left Behind program is pure socialism in that it takes public education and through standardized tests makes it easier for the government to quantify results and work to make all educators teach the same materials in the same manner.

In reality, as Hitler's National Socialists clearly demonstrated, a large military budget is the surest sign of socialism (i.e. the government controlling the economy and industrial sector, though in the U.S. we pretend the Defense Dept. and defense contractors are separate entities even though the same people usually work for both at different times).

So when right wingers go on about fear of America turning to socialism it's always pretty amusing. They got upset about gas going over $4 a gallon when our government was holding that price down for them while the rest of the world paid at least twice as much.

Oh, and I'm happy Obama won, though I don't think he can work miracles or walk on water.

He's intelligent, and I believe sincere, and has not only beat out the Republicans but the Reagan-Democrats of the Clinton family as well.

If the rest of the world decides to like America a little bit more, that is a good thing, especially if it ends up being because we start to deserve it again. We better make friends with the rest of the world, because it happens we owe them a lot of money.

it is a great day in us history, against my own will i find i might actually be hopeful - the prospect of no more bush! someone who would return us to a humanist, not mechanist, tradition.

weird, heading home from a blasting mv/ee set to come across a huge crowd of several 100 dancing people at Bedford and N 7 and then again at St Marks and Ave A, which I think was about to get broken up as I saw 6 police vans race downs st marks with lights flashing as I crossed 1st Ave, cops seemed restrained, I was going to go out and see if anything crazy goes down but I can't find my blank film and it is 2am.

BRAVO!!!!!

candymoan 11.05.2008 03:50 AM

obama thanks "...the young people who rejected the myth of their generation's apathy.." in his victory speech..

he has integrated the aspect of "hope" and the ideal for "change" in his campaign.. and that resonated with the american public..

okay, that means something..
i share the excitement, but all in all, it is still politics and i reserve my right for cynicism..

good luck, everyone...

al shabbray 11.05.2008 03:57 AM

YAY!

pbradley 11.05.2008 04:18 AM

Ive got a macbook too, but no pro, with the dual 2.0 ghz intel processor and 2 gigs of ram, I would kill for fallout 3
