I think it was me as well. Proper spacklore, gessme?

Yeah I know, but it's perfectly true. He's one of those people who's so totally racist but can't see it. The sort of bloke who won't eat chinese food because he's still convinced they put cats in it.

Glice 03.01.2009 07:34 PM

I think there is such a thing as benign racism. I can't really qualify that except to say that I don't find it offensive when an Indian mate didn't recognise me because "all you people look the same to me".

Yeah I kind of agree with you there.

Lurker 03.01.2009 07:37 PM

I am thoroughly enjoying this thread.

demonrail666 03.01.2009 07:37 PM

I think a lot of it is genuinely innocent. Especially with elderly people. It takes them ten years to get used to saying 'coloured' only to find out it's now racist. The poor sods don't know whether they're coming or going in the end.

Noooo, I'm enjoying the stories and interesting lingual variants!

By the way, is my signature racialist? I thought it was funny.

It doesn't bother me, but I know Glice is a Sikh, so it might bother him.

My Mum still says coloured. She's genuinely the least racist person ever, except she has no idea how to refer to people. Most coloured people that I've introduced her to think she's mint. It's the stuff that Manning would be proud of.

Lurker 03.01.2009 07:45 PM

Right, Glice?

It's more religiousist anyway. Maybe Mudhoney fans don't like it either.

Nah, can't be dicked with all that.

I do carry a sword at all times though...

Beats me. I overheard their usage on the night bus once, as a group were discussing various tangents of their pov lives. "He's a fag, lad, he gets parcelled everywhere"- meaning either getting bummed, or getting battered? Who knows? Webbed may have something to do with being drunk, or confused.

demonrail666 03.01.2009 08:21 PM

webbed does seem to suggest that. Reminds me of the term 'off my face' in reference to the effects of doing an E.

Danny Himself 03.01.2009 08:23 PM

Oh yes. Or 'off my head', 'off my tits', etc.

demonrail666 03.01.2009 08:24 PM

they say 'bonked' in Wales. Which is brilliant I think.

Use of the word "racialism":

And I just looked it up in the dictionary, it is a real word.
