I think this was the order for tonight, 7/3 @ United Palace Theater, NYC. Correct me if wrong:
Sacred Trickster No Way Calming the Snake Poison Arrow Catholic Block Walkin Blue Anti-Orgasm Leaky Lifeboat Antenna Malibu Gas Station Massage the History World Looks Red -------------------- PCH Brother James -------------------- Death Valley '69 |
I'm pretty sure Tom Violence was in there as well. Maybe after Anti-Orgasm...

What We Know was in one of the encores.
What a MAJOR disappointment on the venue. HUGE HIGH ceiling. Cavernous. Sounded like garbage. THEY were tight and the sound guy did what he could with it, but the room was too big. Sounded MUCH better by about two thirds of the way through but still wasn't right. Quote:

Disagree on your assessment, but that's just my ears...I was in the last row on the floor and while it was not pristine sound certainly the whole way through, I was more than happy with the show. And to meet another awesome boardie, Neptuneg.
|
what we know was in the first encore, brother james was in the second encore
also from where i was in the back it sounded very good |
High energy from the band all around.....would have been nice to hear the bass guitar....it finally got turned up in time for Massage...and from then on it was pretty tight sound-wise.They killed in the encores,Brother James was sickness and Death Valley destroyed.

Sacred Trickster
No Way Calming the Snake Poison Arrow Tom Violence Walkin Blue Anti-Orgasm Leaky Lifeboat Antenna Catholic Block Malibu Gas Station Massage the History World Looks Red __ What We Know Pacific Coast Highway __ Brother James Death Valley '69 great fucking show... wish they played thunderclap.. i'd rather it over stinky malibu gas station... it was the only song they didnt play from the eternal. it was my fourth time seeing them (8/06, 7/08, 8/08) and it was sick. |
I'm digging how DV69 seems to have replaced Kool Thing on this tour.
|
Wilffiv's setlist above is correct. I was in the upper level, and I think the sound may have been muddled a bit. Still an adequate show by SY standards, which is a great show by any other standard.

As Thurston fumbled with his guitar...
LEE: "Strap it on, dude." THURSTON: "I'd like to strap you on sometime, Lee." LEE: "That makes two of us." |

WhAAAA? Thought you couldn't make it! Would've been awesome to meet up. |

Yep...probably the biggest laugh I've had at a Sonic Youth concert.

fixed. best part was when thurston told everyone to fuck the seats and come to the front. everyone went bananas during dv69. and i thought that was a jenn sighting. |
Thanks for the fix, I thought I'd heard "That makes two of us", haha.
Where were you, Soniknirve? |
It was really nice to meet you, Jen & Panto!
|
Wow, where I was sitting I heard almost nothing but bass. The bass was really, really loud in the mix. I was sitting to the left (Lee side) near the front.
It did sound better towards the end (around Massage the History) and the older material was excellent (World Looks Red, Brother James both were killer). Good energy but the sound was pretty terrible. Quote:

Yeah, Malibu Gas Station sounded pretty shit. Kim was really off key or something. It's a shame because that song, on the album, is really stellar.
What we Know was great thought. That song is a really thunder kicker! great fucking show... wish they played thunderclap.. i'd rather it over stinky malibu gas station... it was the only song they didnt play from the eternal. it was my fourth time seeing them (8/06, 7/08, 8/08) and it was sick.[/quote] |
