oh i see that already happened.

You see, Roisin Murphy reminds me of Goldfrapp, more or less, and does pop way more convincingly. Let's have a poll, shall we?

I love those two songs from Felt mountain :

Paper bag (live at Transmusicales de Rennes)

Horse tears (Shepherd's Bush Empire, 2001)

that song utopia is like audio leper, makes me want to tear my skin off, or makes me feel my skin is tearing itself off.

either way, it's bad.

i would say that ms. goldfrapp irks me the wrong way as a person with her aesthetic and voice, etc. but i first heard her/the band on the radio, and it sounded to me like crap.

peaches does that to me too, annoying person with horrible music, i kinda also think they are kinda alike with different levels of screaming.

whereas someone like lady gaga, i can't stand the sight of her but have found myself singing that dance song and "poker face". if i listened to her and not see her, it wouldn't be a problem, perhaps.

but can't do that with goldfrapp, she seems very bland, and passing blandness as brilliant or forward thinking music, which is neither.

Exactly. Bad music is one thing, bad music that's bland and has illusions of credibility is quite another.

Is dressing up with elaborate costumes still taboo for 'serious' music lovers?

It's not as if she and her bandmates are saying... "we're brilliant" and the doting public follows. They just make their music and a segment of the population happens to love it. It's the press and the critics that toss around words like progressive and brilliant. I tend to avoid music publications like the plague. For example, their most recent album has been their most poorly received (amongst fans and critics) but it is my favorite.

I do think Goldfrapp is brilliant (all on my own).
