haha, I remember this guy I used to work with at a record store discovering MBV and thinking he discovered this totally unknown band... and he left a msg on my cell that said "I found this band that we'll both love, because it's a combination of each of our favorite bands.... they sound just like Sonic Youth mixed with The Cure... they're called... My... Bloody... Valentine!" haha.

I think Isn't Anything is better than Loveless too, but Loveless is really about the atmoshpere, like SyrFox said. So, maybe, I need to be in a very particular mood to like it because I currently think it's one of the most overrated albums of all time... Anyway, I think their best song might be "Sometimes" or "(When You Wake) You're Still in a Dream".

I prefer Loveless to IA because listening to it is like being absorbed into another level of consciousness. Its like a whole other world opens up when its played. Many of the songs on the record took longer for my punk mind to appreciate like "come in alone" and "to here knows when" but now i love them esp all the cool outros mbv wrote on the record.
IA is a great record i especially love Shields more innocent sounding vocals on this record and the more straight ahead songs on it. At the same time though IA sounds like a band but Loveless sounds like an experience. I just love that surrounding atmosphere to Loveless that makes the record harder to believe that it was made by normal humans who eat breakfast and go grocery shopping. In Conclusion, IA is shrooms and Loveless is ecstasy.Take your pick |

thanks god my hearing after 2 MBV gigs in just two days stayed ok (we were pretty much very upfront). I refused to use earplugs I got offered (coz I never use them). it was my first time seeing them live, but god they were loud. if I'll decide to see them @ ATP this Dec., I make sure I use some...just in case. funny but my loudest gig experience would be The Orb. It was in a small venue and Alex wanted max. levels what soundman could afford. them bass sounds were actually physicaly painfull. my hearing survived. |
Tomorrow*, November 21st, is the 30th anniversary of Isn't Anything's release. Give it a listen.
*it pained me to write tomorrow, because it's already November 21st here |
I love the track You Made Me Realise, from the EP.

I've always maintained that Isn't Anything > Loveless

Isn’t Anything still better than Loveless |
I think the next MBV album should be called Isn't Anything, because, well......
|
Loveles is better. It is a cohesive whole of awesomeness, a piece of art really. Isn;t anything is a great album, but has some sonic lulls, some boring tracks.

Nah. Loveless is more iconic and its sound is more definitive, but Isn’t Anything is a more interesting listen. I feel like Loveless is the pick for folks who aren’t familiar with noisey shit, and need it sort of spoon fed to them in pristine packaging. Like the Nevermind of shoegaze. But Isn’t Anything is more dynamic, just like In Utero is more dynamic. Just my opinion though. Loveless is obviously great. |

It's like choosing between winning $20 million in the lottery and winning $25 million - one's technically better, but both of them will give you plenty of satisfaction. |
Preference for one over the other basically comes down to whether yr high. Or really high.

Hah. I’d also argue that one is an opiate album and the other is an ecstasy album. Feel free to discuss. No need to ask how I know this or why I feel this way. |
^I wouldn't sweat the details - only leads to a premature comedown. And once that happens it's game over man! You then have to listen to Souvlaki. Or as the Slovaks like to call it, 'Slavo-aki'.
