yep, totally true. But y'know around that time he was on fire... fucking Black Elvis and First Come, First Served are two of his best. Plus in my opinion, and I'm being totally serious, his most underrated album is Kook Keith Present Thee Undatakerz -- an album whose production is so obviously inspired by minimalist (maybe No Limit) Southern producers. It's an excellent record. I still listen to it a lot 5 yrs later. |
i haven't heard that one, black elvis was great and (ditto first come, masters of illusion & sex style) then after that i got analog brothers and spankmaster, neither of which i was really that into (and a friend told me that Matthew was a bit crap), and then there was a massive deluge of records and i pretty much lost touch with what he was doing.
my favourite record by him (not including the ultramags) is the cenubites EP with Godfather Don |

I have about 20 Kook Keith albums. I'd say my last favorite was UNDERTAKERZ from 2004. MATTHEW was pretty shitty, although "I Don't Believe You" is one of his most immediately awesome singles of all time. CENUBITES is good, I agree. Awe shit, there's a really long thread of me and suchfriend arguing about his best releases somewhere... (anyway, get UNDERTAKERZ -- it's like nothing else he's done).

I really like The Ecstatic... especially "Auditorium" with it's Slick Rick appearance.

I love Mos Def and Talib Kweli as much as the next head, but they're about as far from southern as it's possible to get! On a side note, seriously liking Mississippi by David Banner. Cheers for that nr...
|
Yeah, I was thinking, "Mos Def is from the SOUTH? I thought he was a New Yorkie!". Oh well, at least I know now for sure.
This thread is great by the way, a lot of recommendations I'm going to try out. |
So, which Count Bass D should I go for? Because Potholderz is a long time favourite of mine.

Mos Def = Broooooklyn!!
Earl, glad yr feeling that Banner album. Check his wiki for all the tracks he's produced for other Southern-ers. Track record is serious. He did TI's classic "Rubber Band Man," for starters. |
