bald is beautiful. mine fell out when i was about the same age, in large clumps as i remember and i have the odd bit of alopecia. dont worry about it, just think of all the money you are saving on shampoo!

I still buy and use shampoo, because I still have some hair. I just have a lot of forehead receding area. But because I keep it all very short, I can buy the cheap shampoo and I don't have to use a lot.

i hate going bald, i just hope i have another 5 years or something. i'll probably just rock a dread skullet after it's gone, impossible to look good with no hair so might as well look ridiculous i figure

unfortunately. yes. yes I am. I have been losing it for years now, but I didn't know the extent of the damage until I cut my dreads, and alas. I probably only got about 4 years left till its ALL gone.. But its all good, to be comfortable in your own skin is all that matters.. Its like tool..

actually its the complete opposite. Bald men have to much testosterone which is what makes them go bald.. generally they are men who went through puberty earlier as well. Too much testosterone contributes to cancers and heart diseases :(

I don't know about this, such friends. I have bald guy friends who barely seem interested in the opposite or any sex. And I certainly did not go through puberty any earlier than normal.

I think buzzing or shaving your hair also is nice and Zen. Not only because you look like a Japanese Zen priest but also because it shows you are willing to let go of vanity.

I knew somebody would ask. Dreads are i-man's culture and religion, the easiest answer to tell you is yes. Of course I would be proud to be a completely bald man with dread locks. But dreads for me are a spiritual calling, and until I feel called I will keep cutting my hair, and yes, stylishly hiding my balding for the mean time. But I would never question my culture and religion because of something as petty or even vain as my hair line.

agreed accept that for in LA in particular shaving your head is a style and even a statement, and it can especially get you into trouble, which is why I have to wear a ball cap out on the block, 1 times be lookin for heads shining in the light and then is BRRRRRRRR (siren chirp)..

but gmku, rastafari dreadlocks are even more INTENSELY letting go of the ego and vanity, in fact is is the entire point of the nazarite lifestyle, culture and religion revived in the rastafari community in this time.

Sorry, I don't agree. I think that's preposterous. That's like saying (as some tried to) in the 60s that you could only be against the war if you grew your hair long and wore blue jeans.

Are you a standard Rastafarian then? I must confess of all the most popular religious generalities its the one i know the least about. But youre right about the triviality of hairlines and such things, i used to have a bit of a hang up about it a couple of years ago but these are things you have to accept with good grace.
Hair does crop up (pardon the pun) in religion quite alot, monks shaving their heads in the way they do, Hassidic Jews with the sideburns, Hare Krishnas etc.

do you have dreads? Did you live years with that lifestyle? NO. so how could you say its NOT a spiritual calling?

further, John the Baptist, Samuel, Samson, these were all men who were nazarites, who had dreadlocks, and who practiced a spirituality. In the hebrew tradition, the nazarite was a kind of cleric/hermit/priest, and the lifestyle in Rastafari is even stricter! You should not speak so condenmingly about things you do not overstand.

Spirituality has nothing to do with appearance, especially if you're obsessed with an aspect of appearance, like hair style. That's materialistic, not spiritual. That's like saying I have an appreciation of music because I have a mint copy of the first issue of The Beatles or a perfect-condition old Martin guitar.

dreads are not appearance gmku, they are a lifestyle. Its not like a mohawk or a cheesy tony danza haircut, you hair is permanently growing in clumps and locks.. it takes a lot of spiritual effort to live with them. While not EVERY dread is spiritual about, in Rastafari is a deep aspect of our spirituality. It is almost a tangible reflection of our spirituality, its not about appearance but simply living it. In fact, I rarely SHOWED my dreads to anyone, I like the Bobo Ashanati dreadlock brothers kept my shit ALWAYS in turban, because it is taboo in nazarite dread culture to let your dreads be seen by people in the first place!

I am 28 and my hairline is receding really rapidly. I think within 2-3 years i might be getting serious bald spots on my head.
i get my haircut totally short though, and i've been doing that for good 6-7 years now (haircut= 2 or 3 milimeters long).
it kind of bothers me, to be completely honest. i'm trying to deal with the fact, somehow (cause it IS a fact, there's nothing I could do about me losing my hair).
