Wavves is fucking awesome. Grab his first two albums, especially Wavvves. I think I made a thread about the dude last year or so and didn't get a single reply. Probably saying more about me than Wavves, though.

atsonicpark 08.18.2010 05:44 AM

Nope, there's not a single Wavves thread on this board, except this one.

Anyway, Fantastic Magic was a great band.

Norma J 08.18.2010 05:58 AM

I'm sure I did. Or at least asked for feedback at some point on his albums.

Anyway, tomato/tomatoe.

Hey, foxben, did you ever hear my so bored cover?

http://freedownloads.last.fm/downloa...so%2Bbored.mp3

I decided to make it SUPER lo-fi, I recorded every instrument (3 guitar tracks, 2 vocal tracks, a barely audible bass track, and me beating a pencil against a desk for the "drums") over a telephone.

I've just listened to it and, well, it's... interesting. It doesn't sound like the original version (which I love by the way) and I can't believe you recorded that over a telephone, it sounds weird... Well, at least it's "listenable".

atsonicpark 09.21.2010 07:06 AM

Haha, "doesn't sound like the original version"?... Play both side by side -- there's no difference between the two (I even kept the kinda awkward "false start" riff from the beginning of the original). I didn't change a single thing -- same chord sequences, same beat, same lyrics, same structure. The solo at the end is a bit different, since I didn't like the original solo, other than that, there's literally no difference, the whole concept was that I was going to make it genuinely lo-fi, instead of just going into GarageBand and distorting clean guitar tracks into the red. So, I did. That's funny, though, that it's possible to take a song and play it completely the same and not change a single thing about it except the way it's produced and trick people!

I thought the most interesting thing was how the mic picked up the telephone, as well as the amp in the next room. If anyone's wondering, I did it for some website that specifically asked me to record it for them and said my version (he'd already gotten more than 10 versions of it) was his favorite. I wonder if the site is still around.

Also, if anyone wants to do their own cover, it's really simple.. power chord on the two lowest strings... 5-9-10 for verses. Chorus is 5-9-2-10. Then just play some single string stuff for the solo. End of song.

TheFoxBen 09.21.2010 07:27 AM

I mean, the sound is different... The vocals sound way different and weirder. Anyway, it's not a bad version at all, just not really my thing.

atsonicpark 09.21.2010 07:31 AM

Basically (and boringly), it's supposed to be a boring cover of a boring song about being bored.

But it's not my thing either, none of my other songs sound like that obviously, I just wanted to do a joke cover. It's not like I spent any time or put any effort or heart into it whatsoever. So, it's exactly like the original then, for real. Heh.

noisereductions 09.21.2010 07:34 AM

I heard it and thought "wow that's better than I expected." So I bought it. And haven't listened to it since.

atsonicpark 09.21.2010 07:37 AM

What's funny (and what reminded me to bump this thread) is I got an email from a former big Wavves fan today. It's seamonster3d, actually, the other guy involved in Blaze.

The email opens up with, "hey man did you know wavves has a new album? it's hilariously horrible."

TheFoxBen 09.21.2010 08:44 AM

Haha ! And by the way, I'm going to see them in November and I'm really psyched about it, I can't say why but I guess I'm just excited to hear the songs of King of the Beach live and sing along :D

atsonicpark 09.21.2010 08:59 AM

Have fun, man! They played here last week, I was thinking of going for the novelty! And shouting "GOT ANY ECSTASY?" between one song and then "GOT ANY VALIUM?" between the next song!

..In all seriousness, I'm sure it'd be a fun show.
