yeah, that was nice of her. i can picture that, my mom sitting there trying not to get caught (i'd assume it's not allowed to make audio recordings in court?).

i didn't go because I had to work, but I wouldn't have bothered otherwise either. i thought it would be something where he wouldn't show up and then get sentenced to two weeks of community service or something. really didn't expect him to get that long, but that has to do with his previous convictions of course. it wasn't the first time he violently resisted police arrest either.

^ haha awesome.

except sounds like he could use some help.

A friend of mine got mugged the other week by three hoodies. He was approached by one of them who demanded he hand over his money. When my friend told the hoodie to "fuck off", the hoodie produced a machete and said if he didn't, he'd cut him up. So my friend had no choice but to hand him his wallet and mobile phone. When he did, the hoodies scarpered. My friend was so angry, as soon as he got home he got hold of an iron bar and went straight back to the where he was mugged, searching for them, hellbent on doing them some damage with it, but, naturally, they were long gone by then. His mugging was reported in the local paper.

Criminals ought to get time and a half if they're caught doing stuff over Christmas.

Don't work for the police. If they had your retarded attitude they'd only deal with the most "interesting" sounding crimes.

Alex's Trip 12.23.2010 04:03 PM

I work for the cops. A late night escort service. I like to think of myself as a hot cop, but I just walk people home late at night to prevent them from getting mugged. But since I am an untrained college ne'er-do-well, I can't carry any weapons other than pepper spray and a knife (actually, I'm not not allowed the knife at all). We are non-confrontational. Probably too much liability. I was walking down Telegraph with a small Indian girl (who was totally rude and didn't say a single word to me during the entire walk; she just yakked on her phone) near a part of street that is particularly infested with the homeless. We had just cleared that block when a crazy lookin' most likely meth addled bum pulls out around the corner and demands our money. Fortunately I had planned for this kind of shit w/o having to use my spray or blade. I pulled out a dummy wallet and threw it diagonally across the intersection. He ran for it. We ran to our destination. I radio-ed the fucker in and the cops actually got him.

I feel incredibly conflicted about working for the cops, but whatever. I helped put one asshole out of his line of work. And besides, I'd never bust anyone for drugs or drinking or simple college kid stuff.

But surprisingly that is the only encounter worthy of any note I have had in the year I have worked there.

cryptowonderdruginvogue 12.23.2010 07:02 PM

Repeated offender. Long history of petty crimes. 20 year old, father of two. His youngest child was just 5 weeks old when it happened. No registered place of residency. Lives with friends here and there. Alcoholic problems. Has a long history with parole officers and the like. His lawyer at the hearing already knew him from when he was 14. Tried committing suicide at that age. Spent most of his youth in institutions for problem youth. He's been to jail twice before and other than my case he still has to face court in another case as well and on top of that there's still an appeal coming up in yet another case. It's a bit sad, really.

I didn't go to the hearing myself, but my mother went and she recorded it on her mp3-player. Gonna listen to that over Christmas.

as much as you cant go around doing that sort of thing to people i do feel bad for him too. hope that he can turn his life around.
