an advice/order a dear friend of mine has given to me: whenever you meet someone and he asks you what kind of music you like, you will say "ah everything", in a brainless way, if possible (=hilarious). she believes its a major turn off. my taste.
either way, i m bored and dont have good ways of answering this, but if-sorry, when i drink, i might drift away on the subject and in that case, she is 100% right.
you can tell, i hope, that i dont care. i just found it hilarious from her part.

ah and there are turn ons/offs, depending on how you view the other person.
for example, lack of intelligence can be viewed both ways.
people say that it can be a turn on for someone, who you view only as a sexual object.
however, im not sure about that. i did try it once and it was one of the dullest evenings of my life. i really wanted to rip my guts out and feed them to my ears. i thought we were (he was) talking for 4 hours, and it was only one! so yeah, that didnt work.
on the other hand, one being intelligent and i mean in all aspects, not just clever can be a major turn on.

One of my closest friends is a musician and we rarely talk about music, which is a miracle since we see ech other enough a lot. Maybe it happened something like 5 times. I'm not even entirely sure what sort of bands he is into apart from Joy Division and Shellac.

It's hard. Not knowing any good music, art or books is a turn off, but talking about it all the time as if it's supposed to define who you are also is. Like a shield. I don't feel comfortable around people who don't feel comfortable admitting any vulnerabilities, if that makes sense.

Intelligence is another thing. Being smart and intelligent is always good, but acting like that's all you have to be isn't. Another thing is people that brag about how great they're supposed to be in bed - waste of time.

People who care too much about what others think - too superficial, too vain, too concerned with status - those are the worst.

But I guess the worst thing for me is people who don't enjoy communicating and make too many assumptions - people who don't bother talking about something or judge others too much.

Overly 'confident' men are the worst tho. A shitty pick up line is not always necessarily shitty, but the idea that the person has zero interest and respect for you as a human being is just trying to prove something to friends or himself. An awkward line can even be cute if the guy is just shy.

People who aren't passionate about anything - that's a turn off.

I don't know who's saying what there.
But "doesn't wanna watch pink flamingos" is a turn off too.

Sweetheart, would you care for a heart-shaped box of bowel movements on this glorious ritualistic celebration of materialism, lust, and corporate greed?

(i dont find that here and i dont expect to find it.)
for me its almost the same, if someone just loves music. even if its not the same kind.

smth else. because we might not be very fair..
i think that the equation a thing+what the other is or we think he/she is+ chemistry(?)+y, can lead to the same line have opposite results on us.
hearing it from a person making us want to hug him/her, hearing from another, to punch him/her.

Precisely. I can't imagine anyone having friends or a partner purely because of what they listen to, how they dress, or what they read. Most of us might say that we'd prefer someone with qualities or taste similar to ours, but generally if a person really is a good friend or a good partner they'll overcome things like that and compromise, if they sense it might be worth it. I mean, who wants to be around a person who's so fastidious about everything to the point they're an annoying twat? A masochist or someone with very low self-esteem, perhaps.

There's a lot of people I love who are passionate about things I don't know much about. Food, plants, design whatever... I just like to hear people go on about something they are passionate about with that spark in their eyes.
