Star Power, Green Light, Shadow of a Doubt and Death to our Friends are probably my favorite EVOL songs at the moment.

Can we talk about the title? It is very literary. Everyone knows the backward/forward relationship = EVOL/LOVE. It is obviously a little subversive to spell a word backwards. But the fact is they did and the title we are given is not even a word. I unconsciously get screwed up by this fact. EVOL, EVOL, EVOL. Say it all you want it is still not a word. Maybe I am betraying my ignorance.

A certain high-school student was inspired unconsciously by this word to think of evolution.

P.S. Tony Oursler apparently made up the name for a film he had made. That's where Sonic Youth got it.

EVOL is LOVE backwards, but it could also mean evolution...this was, after all, SY's first album with Steve behind the kit, and I think he's a better drummer for them than Bob Bert or Jim Sclavunos. EVOLving towards a more cohesive sound, you know?

it's my favorite sonic LP
every song makes me feel something different; happiness, sadness, anxiety, self-destruction...
I don't think it's an album you can listen with friends at a party, but I like walking or cycling to it.

I burned myself a cd version without bubblegum for this exact reason.

Though Daydream Nation was the first album I enjoyed by the Youth, I wasn't very receptive to the rest of the discography until I got Evol which lead the way to everything else. Because of that, I feel like I have a closer connection to Evol (as I'm sure many feel) to that of Daydream though I wouldn't suggest that the songs are quantitatively better.

"Shadow of a Doubt" is still one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

since i find all of the songs above eight points in a 1-10 scale.. it'd be quite ridiculous to rate them in a 1-10 scale ;p

er... when i listen to this album i always think of the same things... killing your parents. nightmares. smoking pot. satan. serial killers. domestic violence. woods. cementery. the movie 'flatliners'. halloween. powercuts. being a teenager. headaches. and 'the gloaming' or twilight.. the time when trees and things in general start turning into shadows.

Evol is a teeny bopper album. I loved it when I was in my late teens. Not so much the last time I listened to it. But it's a great record nonetheless.

"marilyn moore" makes me happy.
