Rock concerts, outside of metropolis', are rarely populated by anything other than white men, I find. Conversely, the few dancehall evenings I've been to have seen me in a darkened room looking at about a few hundred pairs of eyeballs and some wonderful shapes in scanty clothing. The rock scene, I imagine, is quite intimidating for a lot of black guys and dolls, and I'm basing this entirely on the fact that it was shit scary seeing Bounty Killa (the first dancehall show I went to, aged 16). Not something a lot of rock kids might realise, and I'm sure there's a few here who'll find this statement pseudo-racist, and even more who'll find exception (particularly those in London/ large metropolis'), but there we go.

It is curious. I think of Sonic Youth/alt rock/punk kids as primarily white and suburban, but that doesn't have to hold true.

i know what you're saying. it just sucks when those "outsider" tastes lead you to being "the black friend" in a circle of pals. but that's more of a personal thing than anything else.

id say its more to do with internet message boards being populated by white people than sonic youth only having white fans.

I am not black but almost close, although I am not dark skin, lighter than brown but not white. Nor black.
