It's a really good album, the best since Raygun Suitcase, which was the best since the '70s.

Cool to see a mention of Black Happy Day.
That is indeed a fine, fine album.
Timothy is a good friend of mine and I am constantly impressed with how great and greater each new project and release is.

Legendary Pink Dots' latest is undoubtedly great too, but I don't have that one yet. They are one of my very favorites.

RipFrey - Hell hath no fury is such a trill album! I love it that the Neptunes do all their beats, and it's produced completely differently than any of their other beats.

i don't know if i would even call the new clipse album trill. it's.....FUCK! so damn good.

Well, you can point him to my show for constant play of his record, and it was a dj friend in Olympia who sent it to me in the first place.

New Pink Dots is indeed a smoker. They are honestly getting better and better with age. I finally saw them play for the first time on the tour for it, and Ka-spell really is some type of fucking shaman. From the first moment he speaks, it's impossible not to be hanging on his every word. I think he's got even more stage presence than Thurston or Buzz from the Melvins, which is totally massive.

That's true about the Rather Ripped songs coming alive more on stage. Actually that was true about Nurse too, at least to a certain extent, as they added longer noise jams when I saw them. It's almost as if they're afraid to be Sonic Youth all the way in the studio now - at least on the major albums.

Hototogisu- Green (need to get more of this bands stuff and all their other projects, I need more money)
Jesu- Silver
Mammatus
Om- Conference of the Birds
Slugfuckers- Cacophony (two disc retrospective, 1979-81 I think, anyway essential shit.)
Starving Weirdos- Self Hypnosis, Séance at Luffenhulz [Sound and Fury Records] (haven't heard any of their other CD-Rs as they out of print in 5 seconds)
Wolf Eyes- Human Animal
Yellow Swans- Live st Sound and Fury [Sound and Fury Records]
V/A-Tropicalia (Again not new music but the first time I'd heard any of the artists)
Om/Current 93 Split (Still haven't bought Black Ships Ate the Sky but when a friend played it to me I enjoyed it)
Suishou no fune- Where the Spirits Are
Vincent Black Shadow (Cool US band that sound like The Stooges gone stoner-rock)
Xasthur- Subliminal Genocide (best Xasthur I've heard yet, the guitars are like MBV meets Burzum)

If your interested in the Live Yellow Swans or Starving Weirdos CD-Rs check out Sound and Fury Records. It's a label and was a record store in Sydney. They have released much quality noise/drone this year as well as my band Onani's best CD-R.

I knew when I posted my list, I'd forget something I really loved.

Mission of Burma - Obliterati was one hell of a great record, as was the live show from the tour. They are sooo back in full force now.

Everyneurotic 12.17.2006 11:29 PM

i think i'm the only one who got disappointed with nightlife, i think it's bland and boring as hell.

that mammatus album, i was blown away the first time i heard it, then after a while of listening to it, the more i realize it's one giant, fancy jackoff.

my list will come...

nicfit 12.18.2006 05:02 AM

I'm waiting for it (seriously!).

Don't worry too much about not being able to see Jesu - I saw them a few months ago and the music was okay but the stage presence was non-existent.

aceyalone & rjd2 - magnificent city

most dissapointing:

outkast - idlewild

flaming lips - at war with the mystics

dj shadow - the outsider

sonic youth - rather ripped

Edit* I'd like to add to the
Ashtray Navigations - Four More Raga Moods
Acid Mothers Temple - Have You Seen...

TheDom 12.18.2006 01:45 PM

best release by far: Bardo Pond - Ticket Crystals

These were all very good:
Comets On Fire - Avatar
Six Organs of Admittance - The Sun Awakens
Magik Markers - A Panegyric To The Things I Do Not Understand
Animal Collective - People EP
be your own pet - be your own pet
Charalambides - A Vintage Burden
Sonic Youth - Rather Ripped, The Destroyed Room
Wolf Eyes - Human Animal
Sunroof!/Double Leopards/Mouthus split

Idlewild dissapointed the fuck out of me too.

For me, this year was owned by Bardo Pond. It was the only release this year that totally blew me away. The other ones were just very good to decent.
