psyche rock was supposed to be the theme from futurama but they couldn't get the rights to use it so groening and cohen ask the guy who was to do the music for every episode to make a piece of music similar to that. by the way, there's a lot of songs that i barely see the similarities. |
Thurston Moore - Fri/End = Yo La Tengo - Cherry Chapstick
Captain Beefheart - Hot head / Television - Friction
SY: Dripping Dream </\> Billy Joel:You May Be Right
there was a thread like this on the old board, this is totally fun! |
silversun pickups - "lazy eye" reminds me a lot of sy's "sunday"
I've been trying to get my family to realize that Interpol sounds just like Joy Division, but they won't listen.
thats because they dont sound like joy division....
the raptures echoes sounds like early cure and public imagelimiteds metal box played at the same time |
Joy Division and Interpol might as well be the same band.
Most songs remind me of other songs. I don't see how they cannot. Borrowings, appropriations, whatever you want to call them, are natural and inevitable.
La Bamba reminds me of Twist & Shout... and over a million other songs too.
Seriously though, mine would have to be Yo La Tengo:Autumn Sweater::Wilco:Heavy Metal Drummer |

you wish. Quote:
funny, that one actually reminds me of the smashing pumpkins' "1979". |
The Enemy's 'We'll Live and Die in These Towns' sounds like a carbon copy of 'Going Underground' by The Jam
regarding: Captain Beefheart - Hot head
that's funny someone mentioned this, there is another song that sounds almost identical to it as well, and someone made a note of it on perfect sounds forever or some website like that.. I can't remember for the life of me.. |

no no and even more no..... just becausepaul banks sings in that dull nasaly voice does not make em sound like joy division... compare our love to admire to closer and its like comparing an aged blue stilton to a pack of shrink wrapped sliced cheese...... and e.n. yeah, evey time i hear the blasted record! |
i said on this thread before, but interpol DOES sound like joy division, specifically the song shadowplay.
Iterpol sounds like a shitty Joy Division. Listen to the bass and the voice and the tone of the all the songs. Word, Adam. You know how it be.
I always thought that Interpol and Muse were both incredibly overrated. But if you tell any of their fans that they'll start saying that your favourite bands suck, and it hurts too much to hear anyone say that about Sonic Youth.
Cat Power - The greatest / Making plans for Nigel (Nouvelle Vague version)
Roxy Music - Song for Europe / Beatles - While my guitar gently weeps
The Roxy Music song is still great though |
Twist and Shout reminds me of Dirty Boots. And vice versa.
Every kinks song reminds me of what the beatles should have sounded like had they not been the most overrated and boring band ever.
with the possible exception of the doors being the most overrated and boring band ever. doors songs remind me of taking a crap.
Flaming Lips - Talkin' 'Bout The Smiling Deathporn Immortality Blues (Everyone Wants To Live Forever) / Sonic Youth - Schizophrenia
If only for the riff alone. Wayne is a SY fan so he should know better :D |
There is a heavy influence of Spacemen 3's sound in Deerhunter's Cryptograms. You can hear some similarities in Spacemen 3's Come Down Softly To My Soul and Deerhunter's Octet.

Sorry I don't hear it  |
The opening guitar part of Beat Happenings "I Spy" reminds me of the opening of the Sex Pistol's "Pretty Vacant".
Also the opening riff of the Wiper's "What Is" sounds exactly like that in "Telepathic Love". When I heard "What Is" for the first time I thought it was a redo of "Telepathic Love". |
Quote:
If not: The riff is exactly the same as one of the parts in Schizophrenia. Listen at 2:50. That bit! |
Quote:
Ok, now I hear it :D I was looking for the main riff of Schizophrenia, not the middle part. |
Yeah I thought you might have been.
Beck's Already Dead starts very much like Blind Melon's No Rain.
The Cure - Boys don't cry / Madonna - Ray of light
that first crappy Franz Ferdinand single had a serious LedZep Trampled Under Foot thing going on.
Car by Built to Spill sounds a lot like Forever Young.
Anyone else ever notice that aside from overall mood and agression, Stereo Sanctity is kind of similar to Schizophrenia..?
I LOVE "CAR" by built to spill!!
Loser by Beck is very similar in structure to The Butthole Surfers' Pepper

I don't hear the similarity (apart from the fact there's harmonics and tremolo picking in both songs, but you hear that in many SY songs so...). |
Maybe if Schizophrenia was sped up the songs would sound similar, that may be what you mean.
