shit i think until water grasps flame was great too, but new rap was on another level. like yeah there are a few times when the drums and guitar cooperate on that album, but to hear each like push the boundaries of their "place" in the song and clash against the other...man it's incredible, that album is like a constant power struggle.

There's no fucking way I could do this. I can hardly memorize the names of my favorite albums aside the first 15 or so. Besides I only own about 350-400 albums/EPs/7" so there's no point.

gmku 06.06.2008 03:08 PM

I used to have a top 100 list on rateyourmusic but got bored with it. It would be different these days anyway.

This would be fun to do if I had the time. Right now I think it would start with VU & Nico and somewhere in there would be a coupla Yardbirds LPs, the ones I've been listening to lately.

atsonicpark 06.07.2008 06:23 AM

my # 1 (or # 73 in the case of this old poll) would be fahey and then # 72 would be beefheart and # 71 would be boredoms. i'll have to redo this list.

No. 1's are overrated. Favourites are the real deal.

reginald 06.07.2008 09:24 AM

Mine would change daily. I'd just spread out my 2,000+ cd's and pick a random 73. I love them all, I couldn't even begin to pick a top 73.

batreleaser 06.07.2008 11:34 AM

my cds are scattered between my parent's house on cape cod, ma (where i am now) and my apartment at the university of arizona. all together id say i have around 1500 to 2000 cds. not to mention all the ones that ive traded and sold over the years. also got shit loads of old tapes and mixtapes, about 80 vinyl, etc.. my parents say its an addiction, which it probably is, but better than shooting junk thats for fucking sure.

Sometimes, when I'm sat on the internet, I like to incorporate a little turn of the wrist, just at the apex of the up-stroke. The heightened sensation usually inspires me when I'm getting to the end of a tricky list and I can't decide whether I should put Bob Marley or Public Enemy. And BAM! As the spunk hits the keyboard, I've got it! Something that no-one else would think of, like the first Fresh Prince album.

no one on this board would, but that's in a lot of top100 hiphop records type lists.

Glice 09.08.2009 12:38 PM

My housemate got it recently. It's a good 'un. Unfortunately, I think you just illustrated my point.

even though will smith is probably the rapper who is most OK for white people to like (along with jurassic 5 & eminem) he doesn't have any indierock kudos* (unlike J5 or eminem) so you won't see him on any lists here.

*due to his low "authenticity" rating, i.e. he's black but he's not angry or poor

Glice 09.08.2009 01:01 PM

Do you remember when Black Eyed Peas were the hip-hop group to out-hip J5 when they got a bit popular?

Actually, d'you know what I was listening to from that sort of period the other day? DJ Vadim. I'd completely forgotton about him.

I remember when black eyed peas first came out and people just said they were like J5 but not as good.
Funny about DJ Vadim though as I was covering reception at work today and we got cold called by Ninja Tune trying to find out stuff about people who choose which music to put over the credits at the end of TV programs. Has that label even put out a record this decade?

demonrail666 09.08.2009 05:37 PM

they're still meant to be going but haven't done anything significant for ages. The Bug stuff has been about the highest profile.

oh ok, i thought the bug was on rephlex or some other label

demonrail666 09.08.2009 07:01 PM

I know they put out some stuff on ninja tunes, the album anyway, but i don't know how much.

They're one of those labels that seemed to have its moment but were too tied in witth a quite small genre so when it dropped out of fashion, they sort of went with it, unable to move forward. a bit like Metalheadz.
