I just got Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain and while I don't think it's as good as Slanted, it still rocks.

pbradley 07.29.2007 12:01 PM

sometimes I'll find a song that I really dig and I'll listen to it over and over again out of sheer bliss

most recently, Jackals, False Grails: The Lonesome Era has been the song

ZEROpumpkins 07.31.2007 03:04 AM

I'm remaining celibate until the Corners deluxe comes out.

atsonicpark 07.31.2007 03:42 AM

why didn't they do a deluxe westing

afterthefact 07.31.2007 10:59 AM

I LOVE Crooked Rain Crooked Rain, espcially the desert sessions (I think that's what it's called). Whatever the name, it holds a strong place in my heart, mostly due to the fact it got me through the homesickness of moving away. I listened to it almost the entire summer of 06.

Because it's not an official pavement album. Just a collection of their first three awesome EP's and the Summer Babe single.

atsonicpark 08.01.2007 05:51 AM

haha i know. :)

pauly got what i was saying.

ZEROpumpkins 08.01.2007 06:13 AM

Cool. Sometimes it's hard to pick up sarcasm online. And adding any kind of emoticon would be too stupid.

GrungeMonkey 08.01.2007 09:37 AM

I love it all man. But Wowee Zowee for me.

Though Major Leagues is maybe my favourite song... Its just gorgeous...

But Trigger Cut rocks too.

Disgruntled Youth 08.01.2007 06:03 PM

I can get Wowee on wax for 13, I'm still holding out though. Money is a fucking issue!!!

stu666 01.23.2012 06:19 AM

http://crookedrain.com/ (site still under construction) There will be live shows available to download...

E. Noisefield 01.23.2012 03:20 PM

Incredible band!!! Boring as sin live, but oh so wonderful! I cried the first time I heard "Silence Kit".

"This is the city laaaaaiiife
Let's talk about leaving"

My faves in order:

1. Watery Domestic EP
2. Slanted/ Crooked/ Wowee/ Watery Domestic EP
3. Terror Twilight
4. Brighten the Corners

Every album is great in its own way, but for me it's impossible to pick which of the "big three" is the best. They are all so incredible!!!

Jeremy 01.23.2012 04:35 PM

All time favorite band. Slanted and Enchanted changed my life and is still my favorite record of all time.

Disagree entirely though about them live. Thought they have a unique live charm and Malkmus is just so playful live it's a blast.

1. Sonic Youth
2. Pavement

E. Noisefield 01.23.2012 06:28 PM

to me, pavement is like an extension of SY as SY is an extension of the Velvet underground. I think to most people that sounds moronic.

Jeremy 01.24.2012 03:27 AM

I think in the grand scheme of things Pavement have more depth than SY, but that's just my opinion.

pad_023 01.24.2012 06:19 AM

Pavement were my favourite band in sixth form, they meant a lot to me to me growing up. So did Sonic Youth as well but Pavement were always my favourite. Pavement are probably a bit more fun as well.

Genteel Death 01.24.2012 07:16 AM

Pavement have NEVER been one of my favourite bands.

Depth? I don't think that's quite it. They're more dynamic, maybe. I mean, they have touched on a broader range of genres.

But actually that might not even be true... SY has done hardcore/post-hardcore/punk/noise/grunge/pop/experimental and even dipped their toes in electronica and jazz. I mean, look at SYR and the Mats Gustafsen collabo's.

Pavement was more colorful, let's put it that way. They had a brighter and crisper and more immediate sound. But I think that SY had more along the lines of actual "depth", but that's a subjective and hard to define term.

Why do you not talk about something else? Music's not for you.

E. Noisefield 01.24.2012 07:48 PM

Pavement was my favorite band for a while before I settled on SY. I think this was '98 or '99. They only held the top spot for about a week, though, and eventually fell to the Nirvana/Pixies combo that dominated that era of my life. Looking back, I actually prefer them to both Nirvana and the Pixies, but they don't work well as a "favorite" for me. They're not the kind of band you can listen to in any state of mind, (though they do offer music for several moods).

Jeremy 01.25.2012 06:43 AM

Not Pavement-related per se, but I just found out Stephen Malkmus is playing here in Las Vegas on February 25th. Malkmus is my favorite musician ever, so I'm sure you can imagine my excitement when I found this out.

~Jeremy~

stu666 01.25.2012 07:13 AM

I hope Malkmus will tour europe soon....

Jeremy 01.25.2012 08:09 AM

I bet they will soon once they have some downtime. They've really only done brief tours here and there for Mirror Traffic, once they do a longer tour I expect them to hit a good chunk of Europe, that is a major market for them it seems like.

They did a vinyl reissue of the album recently

It's available on LP for about £8 on HMV
http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProduct...;-1&sku=285167

You can get all their studio albums for about £40, which is pretty awesome

Jeremy 01.25.2012 05:04 PM

Regarding the TT reissue, from what I've gathered Matador thinks it would be a better time for it to come out mid this year. I guess they were releasing/promoting too many "big" records in November/December to properly focus on the FINAL Pavement release, which, let's be honest, is always one of their best sellers that they hype, hype, HYPE.

It's all about timing, I suppose.

Listen to Pavement's Second Show Ever, From 1990
http://pitchfork.com/news/45838-list...ver-from-1990/

Severian 03.20.2012 03:51 PM

Of course Pavement's awesome. In my youth crooked rain was like the Catcher in the Rye to me. Now Terror Twilight gets the most play. You know, because I'm all old and mellow and prefer tunefulness and listenability to chaos and emotive creativity . Like a Beatles fan who decides that Abbey Road is superior to the White Album. Its just part of getting old. I'm all wisened and shit.

Looks like another reunion is about to happen!

guest 05.31.2015 04:16 AM

based on that fb post? I get a really sad image of all the others just hanging around waiting on malkmus to cave and join them. wowee zowee tour would be fucking magic though...

lo-fi suicide 06.22.2015 02:30 PM

Corgan is a dork anyway :/

Rob Instigator 06.22.2015 03:17 PM

My faves are Westing and Slanted.

Crooked Rain is classic and Wowee Zowee has some choice nugs, but I really did not enjoy the last album and I HATE all the Jicks crap. They became everything they rebelled against, standard, boring, generic singer-songwriter crap.
