Has anyone mentioned Tom Waits' role in Mystery Men?
And everyone pointed out Flea in The Big Lebowski, but they all forgot about the character Smokey, played by Jimmie Dale Gilmore of the Drive-By Truckers! |
|
Oh, Mystery Men, with that great super hero called the Shoveller - the only token that was left
I watched and smelled Polyester last night. There was Stiv Bators in it. A very young, slim and funny one, playing a bad boy playing polo with a broom in a car. edit : his death in the movie, here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySCCFg6mUtE Johnny Thunders played a junkie musician central to the plot in Patrick Grandperret's Mona et moi. He looked extremely tired and miserable. In the same film played another musician who would OD too : Helno, from French band les Négresses Vertes (I was surprised, at the time of his death, 1993, to see an obituary for him in the NME or the Melody Maker, with a fine picture of him) |

Ringo Starr played Peter Sellers' adoptive son in the Magic Christian, a rather inconsistent movie with cameos from John Cleese, Christopher Lee, Raquel Welch.
Ringo Starr lamely played a blue-eyed Mexican bandit-with-a-good-heart-who-dies-in-the-end-increasing-his-brother's-desire-to-annihilate-the-hero in Il Pistolero Cieco (Blindman), the most outrageous western I can think of. Now what was that? First, Clint Eastwood mentioned that he had thought of Yojimbo reading his first Sergio Leone script. So my guess is that Fernandino Baldi (director) and Tony Anthony (screenplay, producer, lead actor!!!) had Zatoichi (座頭市) in mind. Though the credits indicate that there was a screenplay, I believe they threw it away early in the shooting. The blind hero has received the charge of conveying 50 (more?) women to their future husbands. But his cattle is stolen before the movie starts. Yes, cattle, that's how the ladies are treated. Even blind, the hero is supposed to be a gifted gunman. I guess that's why he had noone with him to protect the girls. Don't get me wrong, in spite of his problem, he's quite an ace with a rifle. During the movie he actually kills a bundle of pistol-shooting enemies surrounding him in broad daylight. At one point he is tied up to a pole, and a mean woman tries to kill him. He manages to wrap his thighs around her neck as she tries to bite and tear his crotch. Luckily for the hero, she's choked dead before she reaches what she was aiming at. And so on. |
didn't read everything, so some of these are probably mentioned already

Henry Rollins in The Chase.
An awful movie. |
The Chase... The 1994 film directed by Adam Rifkin (aka Rif Coogan)? That film is great!
|
Hum.
The sex scene in the car, while driving and being chased by cop cars, that was the worst. |
But it had Henry Rollins playing a cop for God sakes! A man who had been singing "Police Story" ten years earlier at the time!
And Anthony Kedis and Flea as rednecks! You gotta love that. |
