Yes, it has gone downhill since they put out Sonic Nurse.

you've only listened to the cd 2 or 3 times? you haven't even given it a proper chance.

not that it would make things different after 20 listens, let's face it.

I feel like in my opinion, I think NYC Ghosts & Flowers is actually their best album since Goo. But that's just my point of view :D

Rob Instigator 04.07.2008 10:55 AM

murray street is the slow boring one. half the songs are tepid wet noodles.

Nurse is fucking RAWKIN' and Rather Ripped is 3/4 delicious.

Destroyed 04.07.2008 11:45 AM

It's a really mediocre album, they have released so much better albums. Definetly the worst SY Record, I have heard by now.(Haven't heard all)
Best song on it is, Reena, which is in my opinion one of the best songs they have ever brought out.
Sometimes I really like the album, but other times (Most of the time) I hate it.

how do you know that? that is the kind of bullshit I expect from modern day r&b kids, listening to something twice then completely dismissing, going with popular opinion.

SYRFox 04.08.2008 01:41 AM

Seriously

waltermcphilp 04.08.2008 02:43 AM

you understood all that?

SYRFox 04.08.2008 02:48 AM

Well at least I almost got the point.

how do I know that? well, because I bought Rather Ripped and really tried hard to get into it and start loving it but it never came. It just did not.

i love sonic youth, by the way.

rather ripped is probally my least faorite album. but still, it kicks u2 ass all over the dirtied bathroom floor. blood stained tile sometthing fierce. tile bloody tile. i just heard the news today (i wish).

love,

-swa.

Have you listened to Achtung Baby ? Not all of U2's music is boring actually (probably a lot thanks to Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois though).

Torn Curtain 04.08.2008 05:33 AM

To stick to the topic I liked Rather ripped for a few listens, but then it wore off rapidly. Now I'm sure I don't like it (apart form Pink steam), especially when I hear songs from it played after DDN in its entirety.

uhler 04.09.2008 12:18 AM

aside from maybe 2 songs, u2 are one of the worst bands to ever exist.

I'm not sure if that makes sense technically. There are plenty of bands that I find even worse than U2.

Rob Instigator 04.09.2008 08:36 AM

U2 is not horrid music. it is just earnmest jesus rock, and older people love it because it makes them feel alive.

I hate it.

Protectmeyou 04.09.2008 03:22 PM

what the hell has U2 got to do with Rather Ripped?

you tried 'really hard' by listening to THREE TIMES? please....

it's hard to get into something when it sits on a shelf gathering dust dude. nevermind, you don't want to like this album, you've got a very firm opinion on it that won't ever budge. well done.

Bal 04.10.2008 04:29 AM

rr is a catchy album. not a serious deep meaning one, but some songs are superb!
lets face it. you just are bunch of cocky wankers that cant appriciate some good quality pop rock songs!

So?

Daycare Nation 04.11.2008 11:56 AM

Rather Ripped Rulez!

Rather Ripped and Dirty are my favorite SY records, followed by A Thousand Leaves and Experimental Jet Set.

Wow jet Set....really? Rather Ripped is a nice album. I like Rather Ripped. I don't know if I'd call it a favorite of mine..Everyone has their reason's I guess.

greedrex 01.25.2009 09:17 AM

Do it, please, I'll try to understand this time.

[Sandbag] 01.25.2009 01:53 PM

fine..

i compared sonic youths 'rather ripped' to radioheads 'in rainbows' saying that both albums were -to me- a more 'friendly'..(pop if you want) approach to their music... and that in both cases those albums do not represent what *i* love/like/dig about both bands.. which is some degree of experimentation, noises, weird structures, etc...

and that was about it... :o

joe11121 01.25.2009 08:58 PM

^ good analysis.

Ripped had a few good tunes,

And I Really enjoyed In Rainbows.

ah, ok. I understand. No problem.
Even if I've never listened to In Rainbows.

Man, I think "In Rainbows" nearly unlistenable.

This thread also gives a very little answers to me why people hates Rather Ripped. Some say itīs not experimental enough, some that it is mediocre. Others just say they donīt like it.

Will SY's first attempt to desperately try to appeal to people who normally wouldn't be willing to spend dollar on their records do? And the resulting mess, of course.

kinn 12.06.2010 02:49 PM

I donīt believe making money has been the goal, when Sonic Youth was making Rather Ripped. If they ever wanted success (I mean lots of money etc) they would have make another Dirty after Dirty. Instead they made experimental that is totally uncommercial album. Why they would have wanted success in the end of their Geffen contract? And after Rather Ripped they released totally uncommercial compilation. I truly believe that there still isnīt any commercial planning in Sonic Youth, they are making what theyīre making only because they wanted to do it and like it.
