Sonic Youth? Loop? MBV?
*High fives Cantankermum* |
sonic youth, yes
loop, not that i'm aware of because i think america was not so familiar with them at the time i'll have to ask her about my bloody valentine, i'm not sure actually i could call her right now, it's only like 7 or 8 PM where she lives |
my mum loves sy, loop and mbv.
|
Cantanky - I'm almost tempted for you to call her and say "Oi, I've met this mongy idiot on the SY board who's your age. Do you remember all this stuff too?"
"Is he some deviant pervert, Cantankers? *Cantankermum worried*" "Nah, he's a gayer, he's alright. Anyway, back to MBV...." |

Group hug for the Sonic Mums! (Kegmama, your presence is required :)). |
she said didn't know of my bloody valentine when she was in school.
|
Probably not - they were a very English thing back in the day. Alright, ask her about S Youth then - if she's like Smelly here, she must have loadsa reminiscenses about listening to 'em in 1987/88.
|
she definitely listened to a lot of sonic youth in her day
i've got copies of evol, sister, and daydream nation on vinyl thanks to her. |
"Evol"'s great - "Starpower" is one of my fave SY pop tunes. I dunno if yer mum was into this, but I fucking loved "Bad Moon Rising" when I got it - still listen to that every once in a while now - "I love her/all the timmeeee".
|
she used to play bad moon rising on halloween
|
"Ghost Bitch"! One of the great SY endings, in me humble opinion...in fact, the whole LP, much like "Junkyard" (that again) is pretty much perfect from beginning to end, with "Death Valley '69" being the killer closer.
|
the CD version with the extra tracks is great though
|
Is that with "I Dreamed A Dream", "Brother James" (Killer tune - great Kim vocal) and "Satan Is Boring"? I have that round here somewhere.....
Another SY "yay" - Confusion Is Sex & Kill Yr Idols. |
Flower, Halloween, Satan is Boring, and Echo Canyon
|

Thats the DV '69 LP. |
Tis true, Danny - those tracks ended up on the CD re-ish of "Bad Moon" I have as well.
|
support the power of women -- use the power of man
support the flower of women use the word: FUCK the word is LOVE |
The artwork for "Flower/Halloween" was deemed to be sexist by Rough Trade
|
with the naked girl? why?
if it was a naked man would they have called it sexist? i don't think so. |
Because they were hypocritical twats, that's why - apparently the naked girl and lyrical quotes were "pornographic". Nice one Rough Trade, considering Kim Gordon chose the artwork and wrote those lyrics *slaps head*
|
that's so stupid. rough trade of all places, too. that's something that wal-mart would do.
|
The same Rough Trade who used to employ Douglas Perace of Death In June...they didn't mind putting out HIS stuff (Dougie Boy likes the Nazis a tad too much, methinks).
Anyway, enuff politics, back on topic - the 80's must have been a great time for Cantankermum - so much great music from the States, and loads of local scenes too. SST, Touch and Go, Homestead, Ecstatic Peace... *Melly gets all sentimental* |
Cantanker-news: The Loop LP "Heaven's End" has just been remastered by Robert Loop, w/"Fade Out" to follow. Yeeesssss.
