...and out of nothing comes a new Gate LP:
[UM022] GATE “Damned Revolutions” LP ![]() Dead C guitarist Michael Morley is finally back with a new Gate LP, after two years, and what a comeback! “Damned Revolutions” has all the traits of Gate’s classic LPs like “Guitar” and “The Monolake”: it starts with dark and fuzzy guitar drones, that build up to create a dense wall of distorted resonance, at times accompanied by sparse electronics and sustained by spectral beats and bass pulses. When vocals break in, it’s magical and poetic, his moaning reminiscent of pre-war blues chants. Side B is a wonderful suite of free rock improvisation, wild noise, echoed vocals, a thick guitar fog, haunting nocturnal blues, cymbal crashes… a mood perfectly depicted on the cover photos, lonely, grey, apparently still, sunless port city landscape. Edition of 300 copies. http://www.ultramarinerecords.com/site/ |
"Empire" from "Patience" is Morleys best drumming ever. On that track he's the leader and noone even notices.

The Dead C are coming to Europe!
April 17th - Sonic Protest festival, Paris - http://www.sonicprotest.com/ April 18th - Brussels Since they practically have no web presence (when are they finally going to connect New Zealand to the internet, dammit!?) please post other dates here, if you happen to know of any... preferably when they're not clashing with Roadburn like the above. :( |
I'm gonna go to one of those if I can, unless they're playing in Britain anywhere.
Been wanting to see them for a while and this may be the best chance of it. |
No UK date though :(
But they have a split with Rangda coming out which should be excellent |
had a talk with Morley the other day at ATP in Melbourne, really nice guy. they played an absolute blinder afterwards, Robbie is such a freakishly talented drummer, he can pack 10 rhythms into a single second. their connection is pretty astounding, I've never really seen anything like it.

On this occasion possibly, although their five previous gigs in Europe have all been in the UK. The Brussels show is with Torturing Nurse and in Paris they're playing with Gravetemple. Quote:
Do you know for sure or do you mean that you cannot find any? I'm pretty sure that Paris is the only one that's even officially announced so far.... although I'd be surprised if they added more than 3-4 at the very most. |

where did you find they are playing brussels? cannot see it anywhere. |
I've heard it from someone in the know. It's not on their site yet, but it will be at Les Ateliers Claus which is a cool small place, saw Fushitsusha there a few months back.
|
I can't find any UK dates on the web at the moment but hopefully they announce a London one soon.
I got sent the Ranga/Dead C split yesterday and it's excellent. |

I hadn't heard of that, where can I hear it? |

It's being released on ba da bing records so their site or midheaven |
I'd be surprised if there were any UK dates, they come here "more often" than anywhere else in Europe and from what I understand due to their jobs etc. their touring is limited to a few days here and there, so I would expect just a few shows around one region
