Low's version of Transmission takes some beating.

SYRFox 08.07.2008 06:36 AM

Tortoise's version of As You Said is really great. Even if I don't know the original

terriblecanyons 08.07.2008 06:48 AM

The Ting Tings and U2. FUCKING HATE BONO AHHHHHHHHHH

Ripchord 08.07.2008 06:51 AM

Vampire Weekend. Ugh.

atsonicpark 08.07.2008 07:00 AM

Who is Vampire Weekend?

Seriously, I am at a loss about some of these newer (?) bands you guys keep mentioning.

I reckon you mean this one:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgsCmekHUIg

atsonicpark 08.07.2008 07:04 AM

Yes.

I think it's good, it doesn't change too much from the original but it has GAB's usual dual-bass and distorted-guitar style. I dig it, though I'm not too interested in covers either way.

ZEROpumpkins 08.07.2008 07:04 AM

Fuck Vampire Weekend. Such a cool band name wasted on such a crap band.

atsonicpark 08.07.2008 07:06 AM

I guess I just don't understand how everyone here has heard this band. Obviously, I can download their album right now or look up on myspace/youtube/etc but what actually made them popular enough for people on this board to know about them and decide they didn't like them?

Onani Nic 08.07.2008 07:09 AM

Radiohead
The Mars Volta
Battles
Fuck Buttons

I don't know why the last two really get to me but they do.

atsonicpark 08.07.2008 07:10 AM

Yeah, Battles aren't the best songwriters in the world.

ZEROpumpkins 08.07.2008 07:11 AM

Mars Volta I can understand but Radiohead and Battles????

Danny Himself 08.07.2008 07:25 AM

The Sex Pistols (wow! so punk! amirite? NO)
Black Kids
Anything 'produced' by Mark Ronson (wannabe Danger Mouse)
Agyness Deyn (not a band but I hate her)
The Kaiser Chiefs
Razorlight
The Kooks (again)
Paul Weller
Oasis

basically anything slapped on the cover of NME;

atsonicpark 08.07.2008 07:39 AM

Ohh, so why did.. uh.. P!ATD scrap a whole album? I MUST KNOW!

They basically got a lot of popularity on blogs and became an overnight sensation because they're four pale ass white kids from Brooklyn that incorporate "world music" into typical indie pap, not to mention that everyone said they sounded "fresh" even if their entire schtick is blown off of Paul Simon's Graceland album and Eno-produced Talking Heads.

People seemed to stop caring about them a few months ago, though, thank fuck.

atsonicpark 08.07.2008 07:50 AM

Cool, thanks for the info.

Never heard anything else of MGMT, but that Electric Feel song is kind of addictive, very Princey.

Rob Instigator 08.07.2008 12:36 PM

I hate it when people who listen to bullshit safe rock call others close minded for not liking their bullshit safe rock. close--minded would be not even listening to a band because you don't like the genre or something, but listening to coldplay or marron 5 and then deciding "this sucks harder than the greasy seeping anus of a professional power bottom" is just fine! it is not close minded!

Rob Instigator 08.07.2008 12:36 PM

and is not Coldplay music for the ladies anyway?

pussies, not ladies

I like to keep my derogatory terms away from the gender that provides me with tasty love!

(every single person I have ever heard mention coldplay is a woman)

DeadDiscoDildo 08.07.2008 01:38 PM

It's a funny world we live in.

I told him he was gay. Zing.

radarmaker 08.07.2008 01:45 PM

It's a pretty safe assumption that people who like Coldplay don't really like music.

You can blame any part of how true trendiness these days is defined by how obscure your bands are - when looking at the general public , it DOES seem odd to like coldplay , they kind of ARE the outsider . i never doubt anyone who says they like coldplay that they actually like coldplay , so good for them , they arent trying to bullshit at least , while if someone starts shooting their mouth off about magik markers etc etc that i decide right then and there that they arent actually open for a discussion on music so much as defining their identity at me .

There are about a million bands that rub me the wrong way.

Anything too pig like, I fucking hate pig squeals.

you are dead on

the ikara cult 08.07.2008 04:23 PM

Whoever said Mark Ronson, you are correct.

Also all of these Falloutatthediscoformyveltine bands that all have the same clean guitar sound and waily vocals, and look like this

✌➬ 08.07.2008 04:30 PM

I like some coldplay, but they are shit. And the fallout type bands annoy me.

Gwen Stefani makes the sort of records that almost seem scientifically guaranteed to get on my wick. Bah!

That said, playing the drums is hard work and he's already rich as fuck so he's prob just like, "Fuck it."
