I think in the USA that the fat and lazy masses expect something for nothing, and are TAUGHT this by those who want to keep them in control, or who want to control their MONEY

I'm glad that you feel that way, that you don't come to ridiculous conclusions about others, that you don't judge others for having different opinions or for being different... because it's people like that who generalize entire populations, and is why there is so much hate in the world. i think the name "united states of america" is misleading these days. i mean, the reason the name is UNITED STATES is because the states were each supposed to have different state laws, and each state would kind of be its own country...like ancient Greece more or less. The difference between the two is that for the most part, America's states are united and aren't constantly waging war on one another.

But now a days, the federal government has discouraged states from being different. For instance, as long as a state has the legal drinking age at 21, the government helps pay for roads and what not. That's stupid.

no. we should change our name, because we arent seperate/individual states anymore. i mean sure, there are slightly different laws in each state, but for the most part, everywhere is the same. It's one thing to be united, to be controlled is entirely different.

Rob I - I may have this one wrong, but isn't there a political party based in Texas, who "stand" of a platform of Texas seceeding from the USA and essentially becoming it's own country? I recall being told something along these lines by an American guy a couple of years back...

texas is the only state that can actually decide to leave the Union. The others are , by virtue of their rescinding their original (civil war era) secession once they joined back up, not allowed to sesceed (sp?).
texas, to this end, has kept very smart about this. texas is the only state in the USA that has it's own electrical power grid. It cold be completely cut off from the grid of the USA and function erfectly well. all other states are integrated so as to amke this impossible.

Since we were the only Republic, with full ambassadors, diplomacy, foreign allies, etc (even if it was for less than a few decades) to ever join the USA, we reserve the right to leave if we so choose in our state Constitution.

what sucks is that Maine blue-blood third cousins to the ex prime minister Blair, and 5th cousins o the British royal line, the BUSH family, has fooled everyone into thinking they are TEXANS. that ruins our rep.
