I will say that Rain Song IS fucking great. |

I'm 47. In the 70s my twin brother and I battled over who was best: Zep or ELO? a. Guess who I was with? b. I've stayed consistent. Hahahahahaha..... |
As a guitarist and a bassist I would have to say yes. Gotta give em props, they're one of the best of all time. JPJ is a bass madman.
I do have to say that I don't really like anything they did after Houses of the Holy. Presence is decent, I guess, but In through the Out door and Coda are vomit land. |
there shoud be a third option for "sortakinda"

So true. |
I dig on some songs, but cannot listen to more than 2-3 in a row befor I get fed up with Plant's vocal foppery.
Growing up, everyone is exposed to zeppelin, especially if you roll with the metal crowd, but I was always a Sabbath guy. I'll listen to any Ozzy-era sabbath over any zeppelin anyday. even "changes". I REALLY hate when that fuck Plant croons "...and a pocketful of gold." I FUCKING WANNA KILLL WHEN I HEAR THAT SHIT! Maybe Zep gets a lot of bad rap because they instigated the era of BIG DUMB ROCK? Not their tunes, but the tune sof every loser copycat? whitesnake and kingdom come come to mind. |
I think my husband gets fed up after 3 songs in a row of me imitating Plant's vocal foppery. He's a great singer...until he's alone
|
so yr sayin he is a great singer until you can hear him.
haha!!!! I agree! FUCK ROBERT PLANT! |
I do like his singing. He just sucks solo.
|
fuck robert plant I says!!!!!
|
robert plant is a great singer but he can be a bit much sometimes
haha i'm listening to them right now. no quarter. |
he is great when he is belting out the bombastic RAWK. when he is crooning , and he does this in lots of zep songs, it makes me wanna barf.
|
lol robert:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bz8KY...eature=related shut the fuck up and let jimmy go (skip to 3.00 or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9xCP...eature=related) |
As long as he isn't doing his "BABYBABYBABYBABY" shtick, Plant is listenable for me, but I don't like him either way. Weakest part of the band, easily.
Same with Ozzy, except I find him slightly more tolerable. |
but ozzy wrote the dope lyrics.

god, that is exactly the fucking awful shit that makes me wanna rip his fucking throat out to spare my ears forever |

ha ha ha ha he was probably singing about hobbits? this thread has made we wanna listen to some zeppelin. i love them, warts and all. |
led zep are best when bob shuts his fucking mouth and lets the dark lord take over
|
Led Zep = John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and John Bonham..
I don't think I'm forgetting anyone important. |
I like them well enough, usually would prefer to listen to other stuff though.
Every once-in-awhile though. . . Dazed and Confused. Generally their weirder stuff is the best. The alternate tuning stuff, and the super psychedelic drugged out stuff. Their blues and country type stuff is good, but there were so many other bands doing that kind of stuff, and it's kind of masturbatory. When they do Rain Song in Song Remains the Same though. . . .hahaha they were fucking cheesy weren't they? But that's sort of part of their charm. Let's not ignore the whole Celtic Rock thing that came from Donovan's Hurdy Gurdy man which produced by JPJ and may have had Jimmy Page and John Bonham on as well, as Donovan claims but JPJ and Jimmy Page refute. If they were, I'd say that's Zeppelin's best song. |

Now and Zen is possibly the worst album name ever, and the one song I heard from it was so barfy. |
What? How can you not like 'em? Unlike most of you likers, my favs are In Through the Out Door and Physical Graffiti. At the time, I was a Yes, PF, Genesis fan so ITTOD fit in rather well. Going back, PG is a standout.
And heck, I'll admit it, I like Now and Zen--mostly for its over the top bombasticisty. Principle of Moments is good too--got Phil Collins on it! Honeydrippers? eh. Alison Krause? eh. |

Right on, In Through the Outdoor is great. A very modern sound in a good way to this day in 79-80'ish when it was recorded. Lots of Jonesy in that one. Apparently him and Plant wrote most of that. I LOVE Caroselambra (sp). It would have been interesting to see what would have been next continuing in that formula if JB hand't died. Edit: Forgot to mention the In the Evening lead..the way it breaks up like that, sounding like thunder and then gets all dreamy.. |

i pictured you mincing while saying that |
robert sings pretty sometimes, i like it
like on what is and what shall never be or going to california or tangerine. |
Yes Great band of all time!!!!
|
I would much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much rather listen to Sabbath.
|
Radio ruin Zepplin that and of course Stairway to Heaven. As been said in the end they just became cookie cutters of their own style that every kid who picked up a guitar wanted to play. Give me Alvin Lee and Ten Years After any day over Zepplin. Definitely III was the best with Gallow's Pole and Since I've been Loving You.

^ high five, III rules.
