That sounds fucking stupid, but okay. |
seen it yesterday. worth it! but in 3D.
nice world he created. |

wow, greenlight posted something non-related to Sonic Youth. welcome to the world of useless chit-chat :) |
I saw it a couple of days ago and to be honest I was pretty dissapointed. The 3D effect were cool in the first half hour but didn't impress me anymore after that. I actually liked the 3D effects in the trailers better then in the movie. The dialogues were just flat out awful. I mean, I knew it would be some cheesy hollywood story but 2h40min of whining is just too much for me. Too much hype in my humble opinion

hehehe. good point. maybe, I'll start write here more often. |

okay, this is the equation i've heard pertaining to avatar:

I like how Keeping It Simple changed his/her attitude towards quite a lot of posters on this board after he/she realized all the continued brownnosing couldn't win him/her the hearts of syg ladies.
That user note from Satan must have clicked something quite deep in that mind. |
Quote:
It seems satan's user note mentally effected you a lot more than it was supposed to have effected me. It's clear you take user notes a lot more seriously than most of the others. |

Did you mean "affected"? Ha ha you're so angry you can't even spell. |
Quote:
Oh, I'm never angry. And "effected" is perfectly fine. :) |

Main Entry: 2effect Function: transitive verb Date: 1533 1 : to cause to come into being 2 a : to bring about often by surmounting obstacles : accomplish <effect a settlement of a dispute> b : to put into operation <the duty of the legislature to effect the will of the citizens> synonyms see perform usage Effect and affect are often confused because of their similar spelling and pronunciation. The verb 2affect usually has to do with pretense <she affected a cheery disposition despite feeling down>. The more common 3affect denotes having an effect or influence <the weather affected everyone's mood>. The verb effect goes beyond mere influence; it refers to actual achievement of a final result <the new administration hopes to effect a peace settlement>. The uncommon noun affect, which has a meaning relating to psychology, is also sometimes mistakenly used for the very common effect. In ordinary use, the noun you will want is effect <waiting for the new law to take effect> <the weather had an effect on everyone's mood>. Dunno, seems a bit different to me . I always thought "affect" to be more apt for situation regarding feelings/emotions and all that stuff. Merry Christmas! You seemed a bit angry in some threads. But who cares, I'm outta here. Have fun guys! ps: googlin' for "mentally effected" gave me almost 0 results http://www.google.com/search?q=mentally+effected , while "mentally affected" seems to be pretty common...now, this interests me a bit, coz I use "affected" quite a lot and I don't want to misuse it. |
I never lose my rag when I'm on the net. It's the net! The net is a playground never to be taken seriously. If I took it as seriously as some others do, I wouldn't be on it.
|
You take it seriously enough to criticize the spelling and grammar of others and, yet, the 'net' isn't a serious enough place for you to hold yourself by your own standards.
I've always wondered how out and out hypocrites deal with themselves. I suppose this gives me some valuable insight. |

I enjoy staring at, and poking with long sticks, the lunatics who frequent the net. One can easily liken to what I do to what Londoners did when visiting The Bethlem Royal Hospital of London, especially Bedlam. They were charged a penny. I get to do it for free. You should feel privileged I liken you to a lunatic from Bedlam. :) |
Till your dad kicks you out for pissing in his mugs :D?

True.
Yr as bad as Jim Carey's Riddler thinking He's Batman. Deal with that! |
Come on, let him/her be.

How can anyone be mentally affected by a stream of fonts they read on a computer screen? It's totally superfluous. |
Is it affected or effected, then?
Back on topic, I'll go watch Avatar in 3d when it gets released here at Hellmouth. I love you all and it's raining. Campari. |

I'm trying to get a handle on exactly what people didn't like about this movie. When you buy a movie ticket, you also need to enter the 'willing suspense of disbelief' mode. Sure, its not always possible to do that but in this case it was easy for me. I was greatly moved by its beauty. I bought into the navi's love of the place. I totally want a Navi girlfriend. They are just totally yummy. While I am surrounded by a house full of material things, I know I could be perfectly happy in a world like that. Having lived in an extremely beautiful place, I believe that some places should just not be touched--no matter how valuable the substance underneath is. Yeah, I'm a fantasy fiction geek. I didn't even know movie had 'dragons' in it: I loved their depiction. A little bit similar to the McCaffrey dragons with the 'usb' in place of a purely mental connection. I'm currently reading C.S. Lewis' Space Trilogy and this movie reminded me very much of Perelandra. So yeah, I drank the koolaid. I bought the story, I bought the dialog, I bought the relationships between the characters. (I think Ms. Weaver was a bit over the top at the beginning.) I think the character felt appropriate emotions and portrayed them very well. I gotta say, I totally forgot about the motion capture aspects of this. The same day there was one of those 'first look' things on HBO where they showed some of the mo-cap process. It really couldn't have been done with pure animation--they've gotten good but not that good... And god, the graphics were so good--this was such perfect looking texture to the war paint the characters were wearing near the end. So in a way, this movie was just about made for me. But can those of you who were less than thrilled give me examples of poor dialog or something specific you didn't like? |
It's only the pseuds who expected to see another "Citizen Kane" that are whinging over it.
|
Actually no, I had no expectation at all of this being some great Kane level cinematic masterpiece, but that doesn't mean I wasn't a bit let down by the sheer volume of cliches and cheese laid on in the film. I mean Unobtainium? Seriously Cameron. Subtle as fuck. That said, I saw it in IMAX, and the experience was so awe inspiring that I didn't really care too much about the deficiencies in the script, and really enjoyed the whole thing. I just sort of felt that if they were going to invest like a billion dollars in pushing the boundaries of what cinema could be visually, and creating the spectacle by which blockbusters will be measured for a generation, which they successfully did, then they could at least have tried to make it a bit more than a shallow thrill ride from a script perspective....

Unobtanium is a real term.

Once unobtainium is obtainable, is it still unobtainium?

How can you be judgmental over a movie you haven't seen? Your opinion is just speculation on the biased hearsay of pseuds. |
No, I read the synopsis.
I can be judgmental of a movie without seeing it just as I can judge any consumer product without purchasing it first. But if you consider discerning consumers as pseuds, then I suppose that goes further to explain your subscription to the Daily Mail. |
