back on topic.. why do folks classify bands as nu-metal simply because they played loud guitar oriented music in the late 90s early 2000s? Surely there are more criteria than this..

I argue again:

1) hip hop drum work
2) no solos
3) loud crust/hardcore vocals on chorus

this is similar to rap-rock though rap rock which precedes nu-metal specifically has the addition of

4) rapping
5) hip hop bass lines/guitar licks
6) samples

It.. all.. just.. sounds.. the same. He breaks up the monotony with a bunch of weird little sounds that usually don't work at all, sometimes are bizarrely interesting, but usually just make me go, "Man, didn't Sonic Youth (and a thousand other weird guitar bands) do something like that on one of their first albums, but they actually had a good song behind it, TOO?"

I agree they have no integrity. Sellout shitheads, really. Major label idiots.

RAGE INSIDE THE MANSION should be their name.

I agreed with every word. Especially when you said "to" and "had".

Dr. Eugene Felikson 06.10.2010 12:11 PM

^ The impression I always got from that song was that Vanilla Ice had to try waaaay too hard just to be a third-rate Fred Durst.

NICE TO KNOW YOUUUUU

atsonicpark 07.07.2010 02:19 AM

I pulled out all 3 amen cd's last night and listened to em. Amazing band. Casey played all the instruments except the drums on all the cd's so every album is consistent since he changed members 500 times. Intense and awesome. Probably better distortion than even Albini. Amazing band.

Derek 07.07.2010 04:36 AM

Yeah Amen are badass!

atsonicpark 07.07.2010 04:41 AM

FEVERED and UNCLEAN and WAITING 18 and FUCK IN LA are just great songs.

They remind me of that band THE FLESHIES... mixed with Ross Robinson.

This Limp Bizkit demo is INTENSE.

SONIC GAIL 07.15.2010 09:42 AM

Wierd i just realized i used to have a crush on John Otto in 9th grade. He was in piano class and band with me. I did not even realize he was in that band untill I read his name. I never liked em probably cause I never thought too much of Wess. They did that Tom sawyer song by rush at the talent show one year. It was OK. I never would have guessed this is where they would be.

atsonicpark 07.15.2010 10:04 AM

I love your posts Gail.

SONIC GAIL 07.15.2010 10:20 AM

Thanks! I like yrs tooooo

Derek 07.15.2010 10:36 AM

Haha that's awesome. How was John Otto? Did you meet Fred Durst? What was he like?

SONIC GAIL 07.15.2010 10:42 AM

I did not know Fred. Just John and Wess. John was REALLY nice and kind of quiet. He was a grade or 2 ahead of me. I thought he was talented. Thats probably why i liked him he had a girlfriend in those days though. Wess seemed very egotistical to me. Don't like that. This was at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts. It was cool having the chance to go there cause I met a few people who have actuially made it these days and from this town.

mrb 07.15.2010 10:44 AM

Its hard to belive zach from rage was in a band with guys who are now in 108 i say that because rage suck!

Well Wes is always wearing ridiculous make-up and get ups so I guess his egotistical edge seeped into the band's aesthetic. Heheheh.

SONIC GAIL 07.15.2010 10:57 AM

Ithought he was a retard. it still seems so wierd that John is in that band I never really knew. I was never into Nu metal just regular old 80's metal. Now seeing his face snaps me back He looks alot different than then. But it was almost 2 decades ago I am getting old.

Super low drop riffing, crazy noises in lieu of guitar solos, sometimes rap-ish vocals...I guess they're OK, but to me they'd be better if they could get out of the key of B flat/A sharp...

This is quite possibly the coolest post on this entire forum.

Murmer99 10.01.2010 02:11 PM

the only band i like that some call nu metal is system of a down... or its the only one i can think of. was just listening to Mezmerize the other day..

Satan 10.01.2010 03:10 PM

the worst genre of music ever

Derek 10.01.2010 06:33 PM

I'd say glam rock or whatever is the worst genre of music ever, so you're in luck we just have opposite tastes.

Murmer99 10.01.2010 07:29 PM

system of a down is the only "nu metal" band i could ever tolerate, im actually a big fan. but from what ive heard of every other nu metal band, i got bored of most of it. linkin park.. limp bizkit.. papa roach, etc. bored/bore the hell out of me. i'll give credit to korn though, they arent so bad, i found them really interesting in the early 2000's but it just isn't my thing.

glam rock? that can be anything from the new york dolls or roxy music to guns n roses and motley crue? all those bands rule.

Derek 10.02.2010 07:04 AM

I'm not a fan of any band you listed there.

atsonicpark 10.20.2010 08:41 AM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUhnMSactmw (FUCK INTEGRITY FUCK INTEGRITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4v0yP-1OaY0

so good... one of the best bands ever! they kinda took the static-x/ministry sound and made it even crazier.. kinda like pitchshifter but even meaner!

anyone like blindside?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-K2EdbnK6s

they kinda are like a weird mix between super crazy dope nostalgic nu metal and the beginnings of girlpants rock. great band.

fucking hilarious! Is that what you call all this bullshit the kids in their sister's pants at the skate park are listening to on the radio? I haven't been able to make any sense of it, but I thought it might just be me since I have never been much fond of the radio..

I been wantin to start a coalition to go around to all these tight pant wearing youth on the street and supply them with some baggy pants, 90s era, right there and then on the street. I mean we don't have to necessarily go to the rave in the JNCO, but at least some baggy 501s? I used to scoff at my mom when she clowned our baggy jeans regailing us with stories of dudes in her high school pulling up their zipper with plyers...
we never thought it would honestly swing back! you can't even buy regular jeans anymore, you have to get em in the cut.
