Oh I love that Erik von Detten. Remember his character Clu Bell in So Weird? Okay, they seriously need to bring back that show right now. And keep that stupid blonde girl out of it this time. |

R rating= 17 and older. The Dark Crystal is available in regular DVD, Deluxe DVD and Superbit hi-def DVD. |
Quote:
R means Restricted. I don't know how it is at other theaters, but the one I live right next to won't let you into an R movie unless you're 16 or accompanied by an adult. |
Maybe some of you have heard this one before yourselves, but when I was a kid, my stepfather explained the movie rating system haha to me thusly:
G = Good PG = Pretty Good R = Rotten This was before PG-13 hehe. |

that chick Mara did a fucking awesome job in en El Topo. i was reading somewhere that she was on LSD the whole time they were filming the movie. |

So weird used to be my favorite show. Until that chick left. |

hahaha that show ruled. did you ever watch Clarissa Explains It All? or The Adventures of Pete & Pete? |

I remember when my dad took us kids to see the G-rated classic The Amazing Panda Adventure (IMDB it if you were lucky enough to miss it), and when the movie was over, my dad said, "That movie should have been rated B for Boring." Now every time we go to the movies, and the movie sucks, one of us has to repeat that line. |
Quote:
I have Pete & Pete on DVD. And I was way into Clarissa as well. Salute Your Shorts? Check. Are You Afraid of the Dark? Check. Legends of the Hidden Temple? Hell to the Yeah. David the Gnome? ...Anyone? Anyone? |
hahaha...'B' for "Boring."
I think the very first movie I went to the theater and watched was Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger (1977). Star Wars (1977) was one the first movies I saw in a theater too. |
Ghost World
Ratcatcher Clerks Mallrats The Graduate Amelie Fight Club Clockwork Orange 2001: a space odyssey Buffalo 66 Donnie Darko Fargo The Party The Jacket Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind The Royal Tenenbaums The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou The Breakfast Club Groundhog Day Spirited Away |

When my youngest brother was two weeks old, my dad took all of us (including the baby) to see Mars Attacks. I only remember this because 1) He took a freaking newborn baby to see Mars Attacks, and 2) The movie made my oldest brother cry. |
Yeah, newborns don't belong in a theater.
NC-17 hadn't come along yet either. I think the second movie I ever saw in a theater was Skateboard (1977), which I believe is the movie that originally had a dogshit-in-a-bag-on-fire-left-on-a-doorstep-Halloween-trick gag that's been repeated by so many other TV shows and movies. |
I remember seeing The Lion King on the theaters that is the first recognition of seeing a movie in the theaters.

There's some good ones there. Not too many of them are as good as Full Metal Jacket or Midnight Cowboy though...two great ones I don't think anyone has mentioned yet.

All That was so funny back then. And Kenan & Kel, can't believe I forgot that. "Who loves orange soda?" I always loved that because orange soda was my favorite. |

I love The N. Degrassi 4 Evah. |
Dammit, there's a few I forgot in my haste:
Ferris Bueller's Day Off Reservoir Dogs Annie Hall High Fidelity Being John Malkovich And of course, Star Wars (Empire, in particular). |
Empire is the best movie and the most entertaining, yes, but Star Wars is the best film, I suppose. I don't think Jedi (ROTJ) would make my top 100.

Oh man...it's a really good war movie that often gets overlooked, but the production values (from what I remember anyway) are abhorrent. It does have Mark Hamill though hehe. I'd go for The Dirty Dozen or The Killers as a Lee Marvin movie, I think, but, then again, he is really good in The Big Red One. I suppose that, in the end analysis, you're picking it more for Fuller than Marvin. Lee Marvin is my stepdad's favorite. He also loved Steve McQueen. Stay far away from Marvin appearances in Cat Ballou and Paint Your Wagon though. more personal trivia: The only movie that, as a child, my stepfather ever forced me to sit down and watch is Sergeant York. It's a true story and it's pretty damn good. |
Johnson: Would you look at how fast they put the names of all our guys who got killed?
The Sergeant: That's a World War One memorial. Johnson: But the names are the same. The Sergeant: They always are. I love the way Fuller always has a character in his movies named Griff. One of my alltime favorite movies. It's in my top five. |
Have you seen Sam Fullers Verboten! atari?
|
No, I haven't. I remember seeing The Big Red One on some cable channel one afternoon years ago though and being glued to it.
|
I laughed at how they hide in the cave and keep shooting germans that run in looking for cover from enemy fire. At a certain point there's literally a pile of them at the entrance of the cave. :D
Awesome! |
Oh yeah, I remember that scene now.
The Big Red One really makes you care about the characters. Moreso than a lot of, or most, war movies. Full Metal Jacket and Combat! the TV series are about the only war dramas I can think of that also have such marvelous characterization. Saving Private Ryan and HBO's Band of Brothers were okay. Apocalypse Now and Platoon had some sketches of characterization that are masterful, but both of those are more like allegories or morality plays really. |
The Steel Helmet has great characterization too.
Most of Fullers movies do. I also enjoyed The Thin Red Line, Platoon and Hamburger Hill to a certain degree. |
It's good for me to know that there is still some great stuff out there I haven't gotten to yet; thanks for the recommendations.
|
Paths of Glory is a good courtroom drama.
Sublime role by Kirk Douglas. |
